Ellwood City Girls Volleyball Victorious On Senior Night, Clinch Playoff Berth

The Ellwood City Girls Volleyball team defeated Mohawk in straight sets (3-0) Tuesday evening on their senior night at Lincoln High School gymnasium.

The girls ousted the visiting Warriors 25-13, 25-6, and 25-12 to earn their ninth victory of the regular season.

The girls are now 9-6 overall, 8-5 in section play and have clinched a playoff berth in the WPIAL Class-2A Playoffs.  The team will wrap up its regular season play on Thursday when they visit Beaver Falls (2-10 overall) for a road match.

“Our team is young but the girls have matured physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout the season and show great promise in moving forward through the playoffs,” says head coach Jenna Ricciuti.

The Laurel Spartans (13-2 overall), Neshannock Lancers (12-2 overall), and Shenango Wildcats (9-4 overall) join the Wolverines in the Class 2A Section 1 playoff field. Last year, as a 2-seed, the Ellwood City girls made a run to the championship game before falling to North Catholic in the Class 2A Championship. Of the other Section 1 teams, only Shenango earned a playoff victory last year while Laurel and Neshannock were both ousted in their opening round contests.
