Ellwood City Wolves Recognizes Area Student Athletes

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday August 10, 2022, and recognized student athletes from Lincoln and Riverside Schools for their accomplishments these past school years.

The Club recognizes local citizens who excel in their school or perform volunteer work in the community, epitomizing the Clubs moto: “Pro Bono Publico”-For the Good of the Public.

This month’s recognition certificates went to members of the 2021 Lincoln Volleyball Team who won their first ever Section Title in 2021. The volleyball team was also recognized for their volunteering at the Wolves Club Food Booth during the Ellwood City Arts and Crafts Festival this summer (pictured below).

This month’s recognition certificates went to Riverside’s Baseball Team who won the WPIAL in 2017.

This month’s recognition certificates went to the Riverside Track Team which won WPIAL Section 15 years in a row from 2005-2019. They also won 7 Section titles in 2008,2009, 2011,2017-2019 and again in 2021. Those 7 titles are the most in class AA Track and Field History. They are the only class AA Track Team to win 4 WPIAL Titles in a row. There was no track season in 2020 due to COVID.

Riverside’s Track Team had 5 PIAA State Champions who were recognized. Calvin Wetzel was the 2019 champion in 300 Hurdles. Colby Belczyk was the champion in 2021 for the 800. Colby Belczyk and teammates Ty Fluharty, Alden Wetzel and Brody Barton, were champions in the 2021 4×400 Relay.

This month’s recognition certificates also went to members of the Riverside Swim Team (which includes members from Lincoln) who won Gold Medals in the WPIAL or PIAA.

They were Josiah Schaffer who won in the 200 WPIAL Freestyle Relay in 2020.

Graham Kralic who won in the WPIAL 200 Freestyle Relay in 2020-2021.

Ryan Turner who won in the WPIAL 400 Free Style Relay setting a record of 3:10.93 in 2021. He also set a record of 1.26.37 in WPIAL Free Style 200 Relay with 1.26.37 in 2022. Ryan also won in 2021-2022 in the PIAA 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays.

Sam Kline in the WPIAL 200 Freestyle Relay in 2021-2022, setting a record of 1.26.37 in 2022. He also competed in the 400 Freestyle Relay setting a record of 3:10.93 in 2022. He also won in the PIAA 200 and 400 Freestyle relays in 2021-2022.
