$201,600 Green Light-Go Grant Awarded to New Castle

New Castle will receive a $201,600 state grant to improve traffic safety under Pennsylvania’s “Green Light-Go” program, according to Senator Elder Vogel. The city was awarded the grant to modernize the Butler/Taylor traffic signal. New Castle was among 50 municipalities statewide sharing more than $15.6 million in the current round of Green Light-Go funding. The program provides funding to install light-emitting diode (LED) technology, perform regional operations such as retiming, develop special event plans and monitor traffic signals, as well as upgrade traffic signals to the latest technologies.

Reed’s Services Presents 1st Annual “Dog Days Of Summer” Event

Come out and enjoy the dog days of summer! Reed’s Pet & Livestock Feed & Supplies will be hosting its first annual “Dog Days Of Summer” fundraising event next month. The event will take place, rain or shine, on Saturday, July 24th from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Ewing Park. “We’re really looking forward to all of Ellwood coming out to support the K9 Unit. Moraine State Park Regatta Less Than A Month Away

The Moraine State Park Regatta planning is in full swing, and we are looking forward to belatedly celebrating the 50th anniversary of Moraine State Park, with three days of family-friendly fun beginning August 6, 2021. This year’s event may look a little different than past years, but the regatta is excited about its re-focused mission. Riverside Youth Football To Host Parents Night Out

A Parents Night Out will be held on July 31st at Mike’s Main Street to help benefit The Riverside Youth Football Organization. The event will start at 7:00 p.m. The cost of admission to the event is $2.00. There will be a live DJ, $2.00 jello shots, 50/50 raffles, a Last Man Standing Game, and $3.00 green Riverside shot. Mayor Anthony J. Court announced the 4th winner of the 2021 Beautification Award. The winners are John and Kelly Katsadas. “Congratulations on a job well done. Looks Great!” said Mayor Court in a statement. The Katsadas’s were presented with a yard sign to display and a gift certificate from a local restaurant. There will be 2 more winners for 2021! Route-288 Relocation Project To Hold Virtual Public Meeting

Independence Excavating is holding a Virtual Public Meeting regarding the SR 288 Relocation project on July 12th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The project is located adjacent to the Zelienople Municipal Airport at the intersection of SR 288 and Lake Road. Governor Wolf Signs Legislation Expanding Access to Medical Marijuana

On Wednesday, Governor Tom Wolf signed legislation that will provide important updates to Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act to ensure better access for patients. House Bill 1024 acts on recommendations made by the Department of Health to revise the Medical Marijuana Act, which was signed into law in 2016. Specifically, it protects patient safety standards and product quality of Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program while empowering the Medical Marijuana Advisory Board to continue to consider new medical conditions for eligibility. Fireworks to Provide Flare for Ellwood City

Fireworks will light up the night sky on Friday, July 2, beginning at 9:45 p.m. The Zambelli display will be set off at Stiefel Park this year. Organizer Eric Rayner said the fireworks were made possible at the last minute by Visit Lawrence County, which donated $1,000, Ellwood City Forge with a $2,000 donation, the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce providing a $500 donation, and the Festival Committee is picking up the tab for the police presence. He said Dan Vogler and Lawrence County Commissioners were monumental in helping him find the right organizations to make the event possible….
