SPORTS: Spadafore, Crizer Lead XC To Victory, EC Golf & Volleyball Defeated

A second place finish by Anthony Spadafore and strong performance by Colton Crizer led Ellwood City to its cross country victory on Tuesday at Laurel. Ellwood City defeated host Laurel, (17-44), Union (15-50), and Freedom (15-50) at the meet. Spadafore finished with a time of 18:15, good for 2nd place, while Joel Brooks (18:23, 3rd place), Crizer (18:31, 4th place), Ian Stoneking (19:33, 6th place), and Nick Wise (19:39, 7th place) helped in the victory. “Crizer ran a great race,” said head coach Mark Hall. Reisinger Helps Lead Pioneers; Volleyball Coach Nets 400th Victory

Rob Snyder won his 400th career game as coach of the Butler County Community College volleyball team Monday night as the Pioneers swept Penn State-Beaver at BC3’s Field House. Breanna Reisinger, a freshman outside hitter and graduate of Lincoln High in Ellwood City, led the Pioneers with four aces and added seven kills against the Nittany Lions. “Rob,” Reisinger said, “was very quiet about this. Holy Redeemer Social Club Planning Annual Casino Trip

The Holy Redeemer Social Club is planning its annual trip to Seneca Niagara next month. The trip is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 10, 2021. The cost is $40.00 to join the casino trip.  The fee includes $25.00 in free play at the casino. “We have a few seats left,” says event organizer, John Pansera. Meals on Wheels Seeking Cook, Volunteers, Clients

Meals on Wheels, the beloved program that offers nutritional meals to those in need is looking for a cook. The position will be a Monday-Friday job from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The person will order and receive foods, prepare the foods, and organize the volunteers. Applicants are required to have a Safe Serve Certification, which program organizer Gina McKenna said is easy to obtain. “Meals on Wheels is a wonderful environment to work in and to meet new friends and new people,” McKenna said. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

ASSAULT WITH WEAPON: According to a PA State Police report, Katelyn Weller, 26, and Lindsey Weller, 25, both of Ellwood City have been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after an incident on September 13 at approximately 6:34 p.m. According to the report, PSP New Castle was dispatched to an assault which occurred on West Lawrence Avenue. The 27-year-old victim related that the both Weller females entered his garage, hit him over the head with a rock, continued to assault him and cause property damage within his garage. Wayne Township Announces Its “Clean Up Day”

Wayne Township has announced its annual clean up day. The township clean up day will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the municipal building located at 1418 Wampum Road, Ellwood City, PA 16117. The cost is $10.00 per pickup truck load. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, is required. A resident may fill a pickup truck with unwanted items (see exceptions below) and drive to the township building and follow instructions. Ellwood City cross-country runner Anthony Spadafore set a new course record at Brush Creek Park on Tuesday as the Wolverines boys defeated both Neshannock and New Brighton, 24-32 and 21-34 respectively. Spadafore finished in 1st place with a time of 18:29.
