Moraine State Park Regatta Less Than A Month Away

The Moraine State Park Regatta planning is in full swing, and we are looking forward to belatedly celebrating the 50th anniversary of Moraine State Park, with three days of family-friendly fun beginning August 6, 2021.

This year’s event may look a little different than past years, but the regatta is excited about its re-focused mission. The event will be showcasing recreational opportunities, and promoting Moraine State Park.

Some notable events are listed below:

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT: Join us for some fun-spirited competition at this year’s Moraine State Park Regatta! Taking place on Sunday, August 8th at 11:00 AM, teams of two will battle it out in a single-elimination bracket following game rules laid out by the American Cornhole Association. The winning team will receive a prize. Grab your partner and start practicing now! Register here to join us for this new event. REGISTER FOR TOURNAMENT

BUTTERFLY RELEASE: Join us and release a monarch butterfly in honor of a special someone, in memory of a loved one, or just for fun! Monarch butterflies are now available for pre-purchase here. Claim your pre-purchased butterfly at the table that corresponds with the first letter of the purchaser’s last name between 2:30-3:30PM on Sunday, August 8th. This release fills the sky with the color and movement of one of nature’s most beautiful creatures, the Western Pennsylvania Monarch. After 4:00PM, individuals who pre-purchased Monarchs are welcome to release their butterflies in private, or alongside the mass release. Names (in honor of/in memory of) that were included at the time of purchase will be listed on the Regatta website. At 4:00PM, we will present a mass release of nearly 500 butterflies. GET MOVING! MORAINE: Fifteen local organizations have partnered with the Moraine State Park Regatta to provide free, eco-recreational activities for attendees of all ages. Get Moving! Moraine will show off Moraine State Park’s natural beauty while introducing participants to a new activity that they can do at the park in the future. Lessons and outings available for attendees throughout the weekend will include kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, sailboat rides, guided hikes, yoga, tai chi and more.

A full schedule of available events is available here. All attendees must register for activities online and sign a general waiver to participate. See the full schedule page for age requirements and additional information about each activity.

MORAINE REGATTA 5K: Bring the whole family out to enjoy the Sunken Garden Trail on the South Shore of Lake Arthur. This timed race is good for both avid runners or walking nature-lovers, and a portion of the race proceeds benefit the Moraine Preservation Fund for park improvement projects. Register here before July 13 to get a t-shirt with your registration! REGISTER FOR RACE

PADDLESPORT RACE: Join the American Cancer Society for the Pittsburgh Paddlesport Race (newly relocated!) and SurfSUP Adventures for the PA SUP Championships. These races will both begin at the non-motorized boat launch on the South Shore at 11AM on Saturday, August 7. Learn more and REGISTER HERE.

NEW RAMP: Leadership Butler County class of 2020/2021 has a goal of raising $50,000.00 that will be used to install an ADA Accessible EZ Dock at Moraine State Park – South Shore. The EZ Dock and Launch System will give people the ability get themselves safely into their kayaks before entering the water. All funds raised will contribute to the purchase of an EZ Dock and Launch System, add paved handicapped parking spaces, paved sidewalks, additional seating and contribute to site beautification. This new ramp will be dedicated at 4PM on Saturday, August 7th. LEARN MORE
