Wolverines Softball Wins Opener, Defeats New Brighton 17-1

The Lady Wolverines opened up their season with a convincing 17-1 victory over New Brighton on Friday afternoon. The game was halted after 5 innings due to the mercy rule. The offense banged out 13 hits on the day. Kyla Servick led the way with 3 hits including a triple. Julia Nardone, Aliya Garroway, and Paige Wearing each had two hits apiece. REMINDER: Ellwood City Historical Society Scholarship Deadline Approaching

A reminder to Lincoln High School and Riverside High School seniors: The annual Ellwood City Area Historical Society Scholarship submission is quickly approaching. The deadline is Thursday April 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award two $1500.00 scholarships to two (2) graduating seniors. Graduating seniors from Lincoln High School and Riverside High School who have been accepted to attend a college, Trade School or Performing Arts are eligible. Ellwood Group, Inc. has recently announced a unique scholarship opportunity available to high school seniors and/or those who have successfully completed the GED test who plan to attend an accredited trade school following graduation. The Wilmington hockey team’s season came to an end with a 5-1 loss at the hands of top seeded Bishop Canevin in the PIHL Division 2 semi-finals at Robert Morris University Island Sports Center Thursday evening. Woodske Speaks At EC Historical Monthly Meeting

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society met Monday March 14. President Everett Bleakney opened and welcomed those in attendance. Guy Prestia, a WWII veteran led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. A moment of silence in memory of four past presidents was observed. They were Glen Koach and Robert Barensfeld in 2021 and Jim Hockenberry and Karen Guy in 2022. Route 588 Road Slide Repair Starts This Week in North Sewickley Township

PennDOT announced slide repair work on Bennetts Run Road (Route 588) in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, will begin Monday, March 14 weather permitting. Slide repair work, requiring the closure of a portion of Bennetts Run Road between River Road and 7th Street will begin at approximately 9 a.m. Monday morning. Wilmington Hockey Shuts Out Carrick, Advances to PIHL Semifinals

The Wilmington hockey team shutout Carrick 2-0 in a PIHL D2 quarterfinal playoff game at Ice Castle Arena in Castle Shannon. After a scoreless first period the Hounds got all the goals they would need in the second period with an unassisted goal by captain Drake Tomak (Ellwood) and a power play goal by Davis Phanco (Wilmington).
