Police: Shoplifting, Marijuana and DUI

Shoplifting at Dollar General According to the criminal complain, on Oct. 21 around 1:45 p.m., officers responded to a reported shoplifting at Dollar General on 1221 Lawrence Ave. An employee informed officers that two females had shoplifted a white t-shirt, gray in color baseball cap and a bra with a total value of approximately $23. Investigating officers reviewed a surveillance video and identified the suspects as Rebecca Irwin, 30, and Melissa Sabo, 34, both of Ellwood City. November School Board Meeting Brief

The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City school board meeting held on Thursday, Nov. 12. This was the last board meeting with board members Jennifer Grossman, Bob Stevenson and George Garda, who did not run for re-election. In December, Erica Gray-Sutkowski, Danielle Woodhead and Jennifer Tomon will be sworn in the reorganization meeting. Revenue/Finance The Board approved the final expense report for board member Renee Pitrelli’s attendance at the PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference. Letter to the Editor: Mayor Thanks Emergency Personnel for Fire Response

Many of you are already aware of the lithium explosion that occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Inmetco Plant. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all emergency personnel that quickly responded to a horrible situation. After hours of work, they were able to diffuse the fire and get the situation under control. Police: Marijuana on a Porch, Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor, Stealing Wire from Railroad Tracks

Smoking Marijuana on Porch Krystal Chambers, 29, of Ellwood City, was charged with marijuana possession for an incident on Nov. 1. According to a criminal complaint filed on Nov. 2, an officer arrived at a residence on Glenn Avenue in response to a drug complaint. The officer immediately smelled marijuana but Chambers denied smoking and claimed her friends had done so earlier. The officer discovered a marijuana blunt in an ash tray, and Chambers denied it was hers. Eventually, Chambers admitted to smoking the blunt but denied having more marijuana. An annual Halloween event at the Eric Ryan Corporation received extra attention due to a special guest. Every Halloween season, the Eric Ryan offices are decked out into a spooky labyrinth and employees don their best costumes. The children and grandchildren of employees are invited to an afternoon office Trick or Treat. This year, Trick or Treat featured a special guest: 8-year old Kyree Beachem, who has Hirschsprung’s disease, also known as short gut disease, which affects the intestinal tract. Council Election: One Incumbent, Two Former Council Members, Win

Ellwood City Borough council will reform in December with two new, but old, faces. Former council members Judi Dici, Democrat, and George Celli, Republican won, returning to council after losing an election in 2013. Incumbent Marilyn Mancini, Democrat, won re-election and will now serve a third term. Two candidates lost: incumbent John Todorich, Democrat, who was also seeking a third term, and newcomer Suzanne Bleakney, Republican.
