Gun Found in 2nd Street Business’s Dumpster According to the police report, on August 28 Ellwood City officers were dispatched to a business on 2nd Street after receiving a call about a gun being discovered in the business’s dumpster. While taking out the trash, two employees noticed a black semi-automatic handgun discarded in the dumpster. They checked the gun to make sure it was not loaded and no magazines were found. The gun had the serial numbers scratched off. One of the employees stated the gun couldn’t have been there more than a couple days because he would have noticed…


First Game of Season: Wolverines Vs. Central Valley

The Ellwood City Wolverines football team will be challenged by Central Valley this Friday during their first official match of the season. The game will be played at Helling Stadium and presale tickets are now being sold. Tickets can be purchased at the high school’s main office today, Thursday 8/31, from 7:30 am – 3:00 pm and tomorrow, Friday 9/1, from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm. The cost of the tickets are as follows: Students $1.00 Adults $4.00 No student tickets will be sold at the gate on Friday all tickets will be $5.00.


Hartman Students Evacuate School for Fire Alarm

This morning the students of Hartman were evacuated from the school after a fire scare. According to the Ellwood City Area School District, it was a false alarm caused by the roof project taking place at the school. Firefighters inspected the school and gave the all-clear for students to safely go back in. The roof project is now going to be shut down during the day to avoid further similar issues.

Pet owners should seek veterinary attention for their pets immediately, if they develop of any signs of coughing. According to PetMD, canine cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease among dogs. As the name suggests, it is typified by inflammation of the trachea and bronchi. Big Knob Grange Fair Starts Today

The seventy-fifth annual Big Knob Grange Fair starts today, August 29 and goes though September 2 at their Rochester location, 336 Grange Road, 15074. The event features agriculture, horticulture, home arts, entertainment, food and more. Admission and parking are free, rides are $15.00 for unlimited riding all night.


‘Life on a Chain is No Life At All,’ New Anti-Tethering Act Effective Today

In the ongoing attempt to stop animal abuse, the new Pennsylvania anti-tethering act, part of the recently approved Libre’s Law, is effective starting today. The act will place reasonable limitations on continuous tethering of dogs outside. Specifically, this law requires: A leash must be three times the length of the pet or 10 feet, whichever is longer. No tow or logged chain or pinch, choke, or prong collars used with a tether. A well-fitted collar and no open sores or wounds on the dog’s body. Ellwood City Man Smashes Front Window of Main Street Bar & Grill According to the criminal complaint, earlier this month police were called for a disturbance near the rear parking lot of Main Street Bar & Grill. Michael David Pounds, 28, of Ellwood City, was among several people involved in an altercation, he appeared intoxicated, had a bloody lip and head, and had a large lump on his left cheek. Portersville Man Charged with DUI After Hitting School Bus

According to the criminal complaint, on August 4 a Pennsylvania State Trooper was dispatched to a two vehicle crash on State Route 488. Upon arrival it was determined Jason Scott Sunday, 41, of Portersville had crossed into oncoming traffic striking a school bus. The officer detected an alcoholic odor emitting from his persons, to which Sunday denied but admitted to being on Suboxone at the time of the crash.
