College, Smiley Street Repave Project Reaches Completion

As a result of a Joint Paving Project between the Borough of Ellwood City, Columbia Gas and the PA American Water Company, the street from College to Smiley Street was repaved. This project which involved these utilities brought about new water and natural gas services to the residents. In addition, the participating utilities actually performed restorative and replacement sidewalk and handicap ramp improvements and even some driveway aprons where necessary. “This is an indication of the types of projects the Borough has been engaged in with the utilities and will continue to work with them to get the projects completed…

Man Held at Gunpoint After Stealing Guns According to the criminal complaint, on September 14, officers were sent to a residence in Perry Township for a report of an individual in physical custody by the homeowner for possession of stolen firearms. Upon arrival officers saw Pete Lopez, 42, of New Castle, lying on the ground being secured by the homeowner. Investigation revealed Lopez had stolen firearms from the homeowner while he was staying at the residence off and on for a few weeks with the homeowners daughter. Stiefel Hockey Summer Season Wrapup: Firing Squad and Goose Take Division Titles

The Stiefel Hockey league completed its summer season by crowning champions in both its “A” and “B” divisions.  In the “A” division Goose captured the title after sweeping Young’s Barber Shop in a best of 3 championship.  Matt Puntureri led the way for Goose picking up 21 goals in 4 playoff games with help from his brothers Nate, Michael, and Tyler. T.J. Police Reports: Flagger Assaulted on Fifth Street Bridge

Flagger Assaulted on Fifth Street Bridge According to the police report, on Sept. 11 a flagger was assaulted while working in the construction zone on the Fifth Street Bridge in the early afternoon. Officers were advised of an incident that was occurring at the south end of the bridge. A vehicle was parked, blocking the roadway with the driver and passenger side doors open, resulting in a heavy traffic build up and students unable to cross the road.
