The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. REPORT: Wolverine Football hoping to take advantage of move down to Class-2A

According to a publish report this week by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Tri-State Sports & News Service, Ellwood City football will be looking to take advantage of a WPIAL reclassification this year. The offense returns eight starters, including QB Ryan Gibbons (5-10, 170, So., QB), while the defense will return seven starters, including senior LB Coulton Cunningham (5-9, 175, Sr., OL-MLB).  A trio of running backs also return for the Wolverines as Rick Petrelli, Rocco Sesti and Donovan Chambers will lead the charge. REPORT: New faces on defense need to make an impact for Riverside

According to a publish report this week by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Tri-State Sports & News Service, the Riverside Panthers will use new faces on defense in hopes of continuing its string of consecutive playoff appearances. Riverside finished with a 9-3 record last year, but lost 16 seniors, and returns only two starters on defense in cornerback LeMarcus Cleckley (6-0, 175, Sr., RB-DB) and lineman Jarrett Speer. Mary R. Heaton, 91

Mrs. Mary R. Heaton, 91, of Big Beaver Borough, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at her residence with her loving family at her side. Mrs. Heaton was born on February 13, 1927 in North Sewickley Twp. to the late Eugene and Cassie Viola (Moore) Sedgwick. She had attended Beaver Falls High School. During World War II, Mary worked at the Armstrong Cork plant in Beaver Falls as a shell assembler. While living in Chicago she worked for the Zenith TV company as a book keeper. PHOTOS: 52nd Annual Bazaar

The 52nd Annual Holy Redeemer Bazaar took place over the weekend, beginning last Wednesday and stretching to Sunday August 4th on the grounds of the Holy Redeemer Parish. The food, the fun and the fireworks make the Bazaar a favorite. This year the bazaar featured a special area for kids ages two to seven called “You’re Incredible Zone,” inspired by Disney’s Pixar movie “The Incredibles.” Nightly entertainment featured performances by a barbershop quartet, a polka group, a contemporary Christian group and others. There were performances by three Ellwood City dance companies Dance Expressions; Studio P; and Diamond Dance Academy.
