PHOTOS: Ninth Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest

Unseasonably warm weather welcomed the hundreds of festival-goers at the ninth annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest held in Ewing Park on Saturday afternoon. The Ellwood City Wolves Club, Rotary Club of Ellwood City, Ellwood City Lions Club and Pete’s Uptown Beer and Beverage were major players in the annual event that featured over 100 kraft beers, plenty of food, and musical and other entertainment. In addition, the festival continues to see an increase in home brewers in attendance, with this year offering over a dozen different home brewers on the festival grounds showcasing their specialty brews.

Library Activities For The Week Of October 8

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. PHOTOS: Panthers Fall To Mohawk In Homecoming Game

Congratulations to Sarina Steigerwald the 2018 Riverside Homecoming Queen who was crowned by the Crown Bearer Natalie Bologna at half time. In football action, the Riverside Panthers fell to Mohawk 34-18 Friday night in a Midwestern Conference showdown.  Both teams entered the homecoming contest vying for playoff positions. Warriors running back Braydon Cameron scored three times on the ground and defensively with an interception return of 80 yards to lead Mohawk (6-1, 5-1) to victory. Letter to the Editor: Ellwood Medical Center – Americore

How much do you know, or care, about what is happening at the Ellwood City Medical Center now operated by Americore, which was once our beloved community hospital? There’s been some news about Americore’s financial difficulties elsewhere, and according to Americore, they’ve been settled.  However, according to court documents obtained by The Lee Daily Register from the Supreme Court Clerk of New York the headline story reads “All Americore Hospitals Tied Up In Supreme Court Legal Battle.”  Specifically mentioned in the list: “Ellwood City Hospital, Ellwood City Medical Center LLC, Ellwood Medical LLC, Ellwood Medical Center Operations LLC.” Perhaps this…

Riverside Annual Haunted Hayride & Maze Scheduled

The Riverside annual Haunted Hayride, sponsored by Riverside Outdoor Athletic Renovation (ROAR) starts with a preview night on Thursday October 11th from 7:30-9:30p.m. The Haunted Hayride is one of several fundraisers conducted by ROAR throughout the year. Nearly 200 volunteers come together to create a fun event for the community, and over 1100 people enjoyed the experience. This year, Roar has had the assistance of a Riverside alumni, John Guerrini. Wet Weather Not Deterring Public Works Building Construction

Recent bouts of wet weather and some setbacks have not deterred the on going construction of the new Ellwood City Public Works building according to Dan Franus, the architect behind the new building. The decades-old Public Works building on Sixth Street, behind CVS Pharmacy, had been deemed too dangerous for workers and was scheduled for demolition in 2016.  In hopes of building a new Publics Works building in its place, the Ellwood City Council took out a $9 million bond, it had been issued in November of 2016 to begin the new build. 2018 Riverside Homecoming Court Announced

Congratulations to the 2018 Riverside Homecoming Court!  The court had been announced at the end of last month with the names of Natalie Holzer, Lauren Bettencourt, Natalie Bologna, Sarina Steigerwald, Baylee Phillips, and Megan Rosendale. Tickets for the game will be available at Riverside during the morning on Friday. The Riverside Homecoming game will be played on Friday against Mohawk at home, with the game starting at 7:00 p.m. Before kickoff there will be an introduction of the Homecoming Court, which will be followed by the crowning of the queen at half time. POLICE: Four Cars Damaged At Local Auto Dealership

Four Cars Damage At Local Auto Dealership: On Monday September 24 at 1:07 p.m, Napleton Automotive manager Ray Reale called Ellwood City Police with a report that four of the cars in the Napelton lot had been damaged sometime between 8:00 p.m on Saturday September 23 and 12:00 p.m on Monday September 24. The cars appear to have been keyed on the front bumper or on the hood of the cars. Borough Announces Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Borough of Ellwood City announced last week details of their annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for borough residents.  The program will begin on Thursday, November 1, 2018 and end the first of April 2019. Individuals receiving assistance last year will be getting information from LIHEAP in the mail. First time persons seeking assistance can pickup applications at Holy Redeemer Social Services on Bridge Street in Ellwood City or the Welfare Office in New Castle. Large crowds, food and crafts vendors, classic cars, entertainment and beautiful, fall weather all welcomed those in attendance Saturday at the annual Ellwood City Fall Fest & Car Cruise.
