Winter Sports: Riv-Ell Winter Sports Schedules

With the cold weather upon us, it’s time to move our sporting events indoors. Below is the local schedules for both Riverside and Ellwood winter sports along with a roster with the participants. Wolverine Boys Fall To Hopewell, EC & RHS Girls Victorious

Wolverine Boys Lose To Hopewell Ellwood City fell to Hopewell on Monday, 72-67, even with freshman Steve Antuono scoring 20 points. Jake McGovern scored a game-high 21 points, on seven 3-pointers, to help Hopewell secure the victory. Ellwood City and Hopewell were tied up at 36-36 at the half, but Hopewell gained the momentum during the third quarter, stretching out to a seven-point lead. Antuono led the charge for the Wolverine offense and helped stage a rally late with eight points during the fourth period. He also contributed four rebounds and one steal. Ellwood City Public Library Activities For Week Of December 10

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include: MONDAY, DECEMBER 10 6:30 p.m. – “Classic Book Group for Adults,” The book group will be discussing the book “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day” by Winifred Watson. PHOTOS: 32nd Annual Ellwood City Municipal Women’s Club House Tour

The Ellwood City Municipal Women’s Club will be holding their 32nd Annual Christmas House Tour on Saturday, December 8, from 10:00 a.m until 3:00 p.m. On the tour, there will be five homes featured. Tickets are $10 and sold at local businesses such as Kimpel’s Jewelers and Blocher’s Jewelers, Marketplace on Main, Shop at the Underpass and Posies by Patti. ‘Joseph Gasper Day’ Proclaimed In Ellwood City

Mayor Court has proclaimed Friday, December 7, 2018 as “Joseph Gasper Day in Ellwood City”, which is also Pearl Harbor Day. In the photo is Mayor Court, Mr. Gasper and Mr. Sam Teolis, a former Ellwood City Mayor and a Service Officer, Veterans Honor Guard for both Beaver and Lawrence County. Ellwood City Medical Center Pays Off Debts To Borough

As of Tuesday, December 4, the debts to the Borough of Ellwood City have been cleared for the struggling Ellwood City Medical Center. Joe Cioffi, Ellwood City’s interim borough manager, confirmed that two checks had arrived on Tuesday on behalf of the Florida-based company Americore Health LLC, the owner of the medical center,  that had paid off the hospital’s existing debt with the borough. According to Cioffi, Fidelity National Title Insurance Co. of Chicago wrote the checks. The company had closed on a refinancing deal with Americore last week. These checks covered the $190,000 in past due fees from the borough-run…

Marion V. Gruber, 77

Mrs. Marion V. Gruber, 77, of Fombell passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at her residence. Mrs. Gruber was born on April 16, 1941, in Pittsburgh to the late Clarence and Josephine (Kasterik) Kaylor. She had graduated from the Mount Gallitzin Academy in Baden. Marion had worked for the Riverside School District in the cafeteria, and later at Acutran in Fombell as a custodian. She is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, CCD Teacher, and was very active with the RCIA program. Mrs. Gruber is survived by her daughters, Julie Houk…

Lincoln High School’s 75th Annual Christmas Gift Concert

The Lincoln High Schools Choral Music Department is extremely proud to be presenting it’s 75th Annual Christmas Gift Concert on Sunday, December 16, at 3:00 p.m at Lincoln High School. The music department is dedicated to maintaining the wonderful tradition of excellence in choral music making began by the late Paul Gehm 75 years ago, which was continued by Sandy Lumley Garlick and the late Cindy Pertile. PHOTOS: Ellwood City ‘Light Up Night’ & Christmas Parade

Ellwood City held their annual holiday events this past weekend – Friday night’s Light Up Night and Saturday afternoon’s Christmas Parade invited families and friends downtown Ellwood City for holiday festivities. A cool and clear night helped set the stage for Light Up Night with the lighting of the large tree in the community plaza, but as with the annual parade, what feels like annual rain was in the forecast. The parade marched down main street to the enjoyment of those who braved the cold and rain. The weekend also is the kick off of the Chamber of Commerce ‘Christmas…
