Ellwood City Public Library Activities For Week Of November 25

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27 10:00 a.m. – “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. It is designed to help reduce stresses of everyday life. All adults are welcome. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28 The Ellwood City Area Public Library will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving. PHOTOS: 2019 Halloween Contest Winners

Congratulations to this year’s winners of the annual EllwoodCity.org Halloween Costume Contest! This year EllwoodCity.org held two contests, its original Facebook.com contest as well as a new costume contest of entries from a Fearscape indoor trick or treat event in October. The grand prize winner of the EllwoodCity.org contest was Jasmine Blaze, 4, and our second place winner was Myla Blinn (not pictured). Blaze, dressed a Pennywise Clown, collected an unimaginable 1.3k likes (36 shares) over the duration of the online contest. Ellwood City Public Library Activities For Week of November 18

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18 1:30 p.m. – “Afternoon Book Group for Adults,” the group will be discussing the book “Clock Dance” by Anne Tyler. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. – “Family Laptime,” designed for babies as young as 6 months of age, toddlers, and preschoolers. Panthers Playoff Run Ended, Defeated by Avonworth

Riverside’s magical playoff run was thwarted Friday night, falling 41-14 to #2 seed Avonworth in the WPIAL Class 2A semifinal at West Allegheny Friday night. The vastly underseeded Panthers knocked off #3 seed Burgettstown and #6 seed McGuffey to enter the contest as the first No. 14 seed to reach the WPIAL semifinals since Central Valley did it in 2010. Riverside only trialed 13-0 at halftime, unable to capitalize on two possessions reaching inside the Antelopes 10 yard line. PHOTO: Justin Hand Signs With Tiffin University

Riverside senior and golf standout Justin Hand signed his NCAA National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, November 13th to play collegiate golf at Tiffin University in Ohio. Hand played well and qualified for the PIAA Western Regional golf finals in September and also participated in the 2019 US Junior Amateur Championship in July. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. According to a complaint, on Wednesday, October 30th at approximately 1:29 a.m. a traffic stop in Perry Township led to controlled substance seizure. Police stopped a 2011 Chevy Impala for failing to stop at an intersection on Portersville Road at its intersection with Mercer Road and conducted a traffic stop. The operator claimed that she failed to stop because of vehicle braking issues. Officers then asked the male passenger for identification, but when provided by the male passenger, returned no…

PHOTO: Austin Walley Signs With Bucknell University

Wrestling standout and Ellwood City student-athlete Austin Walley has signed his letter of intent to wrestle at Bucknell University.  Walley signed Wednesday morning at Lincoln High School as part of NCAA Division 1 National Signing Day. Walley finished his junior season with a 36-5 overall record and finished 4th overall in the 182-pound weight class in the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Tournament held at the Hershey in March. Upcoming Chamber SBS and ‘Let There Be Lights’ Events Scheduled

The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce is beginning to prepare for downtown holiday events! Small Business Saturday in the Ellwood City community will be held Saturday, November 30th while the ‘Let There Be Lights’ weekend of events is scheduled to be held Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th. The chamber’s goal is to work together with community organizations and local businesses to help provide family-friendly events to help kick off the holiday season.
