Pie Festival, Panther Night Planned For This Evening

Both school districts will be featuring events this evening at their respective stadiums to help roll out the 2019-20 school year and be introduced to fall sports teams. The Annual Pie Festival hosted by the Lincoln Blue Band will be held on Thursday, August 22nd at Helling Stadium. The gates will open at 6:00 pm. and the show will begin at 7:00 p.m. Rain location is the LHS Gymnasium.  Tickets are $3.00 and drinks and ice cream will be sold. Turn4Toilets, Big Rigs and Goaldiggers Win Championship in Their Respective League

The last night of the Summer Stiefel Hockey League was incredible. Three league winners claimed stakes to their championship accolades. Game recaps as provided: B-LEAGUE: Fancy Sauce(3) vs. Turn4Toilets(4) Lance Sabol started the scoring for Fancy Sauce unassisted. Josh Syphrit and Louie Bove scored the Sauce’s other two. Tallying assists were Sean Strosnider, Sabol, and Syphrit. Turn4Toilets were led by Kevin Boariu with a goal and assist. Matt Linebaugh and Rich Cellini each added a goal. Jack Ferrante Memorial Scholarship Tournament Results

Forty-two golfers participated in the annual Jack Ferrante Memorial Scholarship Tournament held last Sunday at the Del Mar Golf Course. The two-man team of Dexter Boots and David Marshall placed first with Chris Cioffi and Rick Grinnen winning the runner-up honors in the Best Ball Tournament. The Scholarship is awarded every year to a senior on the Ellwood City Wolverines Golf Team. This year’s recipient is Alex Scott, who will be attending Penn State University this Fall. Robert (Bobby) Hudeck, Jr., 56

Robert (Bobby) A. Hudeck, Jr., 56 of Butler passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Atlantic General Hospital in Ocean City, MD. Born July 18, 1963, in New Kensington, PA, he was the son of Dolores Golon Hudeck of Cabot and the late Robert A. Hudeck Sr. Bobby graduated from Knoch High School in 1981 and obtained his bachelors degree from Penn State University in 1985.  In April, he marked his 20th year with FedEx Freight in Gibsonia where he was an operations supervisor. 74th Anniversary of ‘VJ Day’ Honored

The week, Mayor Anthony Court and World War II Veteran Samuel Teolis placed a wreath in Ellwood City’s Legion park commentating the 74th Anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan) which is acknowledged on either August 14th or 15th as the anniversary ending of World War II. Mayor Court emphasized the strong ties of our community to its veterans, stating “We are proud and grateful to honor our veterans for their sacrifices and dedications to our great country.” On August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45), an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima, effectively ending…

Route 351 Koppel Bridge Long-Term Closure Begins Tuesday in Beaver County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the long-term closure of the Koppel Bridge (Route 351) in Koppel Borough and North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, will begin Tuesday, August 13 weather permitting. Beginning at approximately 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, the Koppel Bridge will close to traffic for 72 consecutive days. Crews will conduct roadway approach work for the new construction through October 23. To allow the work to occur, all traffic will be detoured.
