American Legion Post 157 To Host Summer Picnic

America Legion Post 157 will host a summer picnic for members, their families, and guests at 1:00 pm, August 25th at the Ellwood-Wampum Rod & Gun Club, located at 2406 Wampum Road. Any veterans, even if they are not members, are welcome to attend. Reservations are needed by August 13 by calling Joeseph Fisher at 724-758-6277 or Brandon Fisher at 724-971-9247. Ellwood City Downs Saxonburg Behind Arm & Bat Of Lannis

Ellwood City downed Saxonburg, 12-6, in the 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Wednesday night. Landis allowed one hit over four innings and smacked two singles and a double to lead Ellwood City.  Ellwood City scored two runs in the top of the first inning.  Jordan Keller led off with a single, stole second base and scored on an RBI-single by Tristan Nash. The next two months are busy busy busy for residents in Franklin Township. They’re kicking off August with their 7th annual community day on Tuesday, August 6. NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a North Sewickley Township father fatally shot his daughter’s boyfriend because he believed he had gotten her “hooked on drugs.” Michael D’Bagio, 41, of Sanger Drive, is charged homicide and aggravated assault after fatally shooting an Ellwood City teenager, 17-year-old Darren Jevcak, after a confrontation outside of Jevcak’s employer in New Castle. According to a criminal complaint, D’Bagio shot Jevack five or six times. When Jevcak came outside, Dbagio shot him in the arm. Six Neglected Dogs Rescued From Ellwood City Home

According to criminal complaints, in January, Humane Officers arrived at a home on 13th Street due to a humane complaint regarding several dogs that were tied outside and being neglected. At approximately 8:00 p.m. officers made contact with homeowner Andrew Johnson, 32, and later the owner of the dogs Joanne Johnson, 54, both of 412 13th Street, Ellwood City. In Johnson’s backyard, six dogs were tied up outside in the freezing weather and were without proper shelter, food, or water. In other words, the dogs were being neglected. 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Begins This Week

The 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament, the oldest tournament in the area, began Tuesday night at Friedhoff Field in Ewing Park. New Brighton squared off against Neshannock on Tuesday in the opening game. Ellwood City will meet Saxonburg on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.  Ellwood City will be seeking its first championship since 2008.  Wilmington collected the tournament championship last year while Riverside has been crown champion three times in the last 10 years. Riverside Senior Shines But Misses Cut For U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship

Justin Hand, a soon-to-be-senior at Riverside High School, finished with a second-round 77 last Tuesday, missing the cut after his first two rounds (76+77=153) at the 2019 US Junior Amateur Championship. Hand had qualified for the tournament after finishing first in a field of 46 golfers at a sectional qualifier held in June at Grove City Country Club. Ellwood City Library To Host A Creative Writing Group

Starting August 14th, the Ellwood City Library will kick off this year’s Creative Writing Group. This group has been taught by Nancy Wallace for the past 12 years and meets every two weeks. Wallace holds a BA in English Lit and has had 19 traditionally published children’s books, along with a young adult fantasy series called The Wolves of Llise published by Harper Collins, UK. “The program is very rewarding for me and has sparked a lot of friendships over the years,” said Wallace. “I enjoy moderating it very much!” The group holds students from grades 6 through 12 who…
