Casper W. DeFilippo, 95

Mr. Casper W. DeFilippo, 95, of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver. Born December 23, 1923 in Ellwood City a son of the late John and Mary (Montango) DeFilippo. He was a 1941 graduate of Lincoln High School. He enlisted with the U.S. Army on May 27, 1943 and served with the 9th Field Artillery Battalion Battery B until his discharge on November 25, 1945 with the rank of Technician 5th Grade. He had fought in the battles of Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the…

Wolves Club Den 11 Holds Annual Memorial Tribute

The spirit of Wolves Club Den II founders was honored at a Holy Redeemer Parish Sunday Mass followed by breakfast at Carusone’s in Ellwood City, PA.  The tribute took place on November 1, 2020. At the breakfast, President Mike DeOtto welcomed all those in attendance and recognized both the widows and board members present. A moment of silence was held for Tony Petracolla, – deceased former member. In his comments, Mr. DeOtto welcomed the opportunity to pay tribute to those Wolves Club members that have gone before us. WAYBACK WEDNESDAY: Ellwood City Nativity Scene

It has been nearly a decade since circumstances forced the removal of a Nativity scene set in front of the Ellwood City Municipal Building washing out 50 years of tradition in Ellwood City. In 2011, the Freedom from Religion Foundation threatened to sue Ellwood City if officials didn’t remove a Nativity scene that the borough had erected on the property. Ultimately, borough officials agreed to move the Nativity to a different location. Social Distancing Santa to Appear in Ellport

A ‘socially distancing’ Santa Claus will be making a special appearance in Ellport this weekend. Longtime Santa for the Ellwood City area Mac McAnallen will be hosting an event at 509 Golf Avenue in Ellport.  Santa will be hosting children on his deck, talking gifts and wishes for this Christmas. “I enjoy the children’s expressions and in the feeling I get doing so,” said McAnallen. 2021 Detour Planned For Route-288 Near Zelienople Airport

No worries for those last minute shoppers heading to Cranberry Township via Route-288 thru Zelienople. The realignment project of State Route 288 near the Zelienople Municipal Airport will not be causing a detour to impact traffic until beginning May 2021 according to PennDOT spokesperson Steve Cowan. “The detour is anticipated to begin in mid-May and last most of the construction season,” said Cowan. “The end date has not been determined because the schedule has not be finalized yet.  The design consultant thinks they will have additional info on the schedule at some point next week.” The construction is part of…
