Happy Halloween From Mayor Court

Halloween 2020 was a success! “It was a safe, fun-filled evening in Ellwood City,” according to a statement from Mayor Court office. “Thanks to all the participants and all seemed to use extreme precautions, motorists included. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. Kristy Penrod, 39, of Ellwood City, is charged with driving under the influence after a hit and run accident on September 19. According to the report, the accident took place in the area of 6th Street and Franklin Avenue and after the accident, the caller/victim related to police that after he spoke to Penrod about the accident and collected her license plate, she left the area quickly. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. It’s that time of the year again, EllwoodCity.org will be holding our annual Halloween Costume Contest. Each year we have received dozens of entries – and 2020 will be no different!  Let’s make this year even more spooky or funny with your son or daughter’s costume photo submission! Submissions begin on October 30th and go on through end-of-business hours on Thursday, November 5th. EC Cross Country Team Finishes Third At WPIAL Championships

The Ellwood City Boys Cross Country team finished third overall at the WPIAL Championships this week at White Oak Park. “I am very proud of this third place finish,” said head coach Mark Hall. “This boys team work really hard all year long. All seven of them ran well. In a normal year we qualify for state championships.” Under pre-Covid rules, the cross country team would have qualified for the PIAA meet, but this year will have to settle for its third place finish at WPIAL Championships to round out its undefeated, section-championship season. Hill View Manor Hosting Trick or Treat

On Sunday, October 25th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., school-age kids (ages 5-12) can visit a Scare Manor attraction (kid themed) and walk through a Truck n Treat area for treats at the Hill View Manor in New Castle. RHS Soccer Playoffs, EC Junior High Football Champs & EC Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

In a local sports round-up, the Ellwood City Junior High Football team collected Tri-County championship while the Ellwood City Girls Volleyball team remained unbeaten.  Congratulations are in order for both Riverside Panther boys and girls soccer teams as they each qualified for the WPIAL Playoffs. The Riverside Boys (4-5-1 overall) qualified for a 16-team Class-A playoff field and will face #2 Winchester Thurston (11-1-0 overall, Class 1A Section 2) in first round action on Tuesday, October 27th.
