Ellwood City Façade Improvement Program Among Recipients Of Keystone Communities Program Grant

Ellwood City Façade Improvement Program is among the recipients to receive grants awarded through the Keystone Communities Program State Sen. Elder Vogel (R-47) announced on Tuesday. In total, four communities in Beaver and Lawrence counties will benefit from the grants. The Keystone Communities Program supports towns and cities with initiatives that work to create growth and stability while encouraging partnerships between the public and private sectors, all with the goal of building stronger communities, attracting new residents and businesses, and boosting the local economies. EC Wrestling Shows Some Highlights In Sharpsville Duals

The Ellwood City Wrestling Team participated in the Sharpsville Walleye Duals this past week and showed some flare. The Wolverines picked up their first dual meet victory of the season with a 39-30 victory over Brockway, and finished the duals 1-4 as a team. “The kids came together as a team,” said head coach John Fleming. Ben Gallenz earned a decision victory to earn points for the the Wolverines. VIDEO: Overnight Fire At Ellwood City Bar

Video from multiple Pittsburgh news outlets showcase a fire that ravaged an Ellwood City bar overnight Monday. According to reports, a fire was reported at the Dog Gone Bar and Grill on First Street at around 12:15 a.m. No one was inside at the time and no injuries were reported. Roth Hits 1,000 Point Milestone, Wolverines Defeat Western Beaver

Joseph Roth joined rarefied air Thursday night. The 6-foot-6, 195-pound big man poured in 25 points, cresting a 1,000 career point milestone, in the Wolverines 56-45 victory over Western Beaver. Roth, who collected the 1,000th point with a bucket in the third quarter, now joins nine other Ellwood City players, including an other brother and former teammate Steve Antuono, on the list of 1,000 point scorers in Ellwood City Basketball history. Officer Howard Sworn In To The Ellwood City Police Department

Mayor Anthony J. Court swore in Officer Joseph Howard into the Ellwood City Police Department this week. The new officer was sworn in at Mayor Court’s office on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Officer Howard is a part-time officer with the department.  A motion to approve his employment was passed the Ellwood City Borough Council during its November council meeting. Mayor Court proudly welcomed Officer Howard to the police force and noted that he is looking forward to working with him. The Ellwood City Police Department now has 11 full-time officers and 3 part-time officers in the department.

PHOTOS: McElwain Motors Hosts Toys For Tots Drop Off

McElwain Motors hosted a Toys For Tots drop off at its dealership this holiday season. The Lawrence County Toys for Tots Foundation picked up the donated toys at the dealership on Tuesday.  The dealership was able to fill three Chevy Silverados with toys and also filled a sligh with toys. Ames Department Stores, Inc. Announces A Return In Spring 2023

Saddle up for a trip down memory lane. Ames Department Stores has announced on its website that its stores are returning in spring 2023. The chain of discount stores was first founded by three Connecticut brothers, Milton, Irving and Herbert Gilman, in 1958 and grew to the four largest discount retailer in the 1990s. The franchise had a storefront in the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. At its peak, Ames operated 700 stores in 20 states. VIDEO: “The Pale Blue Eye” Trailer, Filmed In Lawrence County

Netflix has released the trailer for “The Pale Blue Eye,” a Christian Bale movie with scenes filmed in several Lawrence County and nearby locations. The storyline centers on a veteran detective investigating murders, assisted by a detail-oriented young cadet who later becomes legendary horror author, Edgar Allan Poe. Production moved around Western Pennsylvania during filming and includes Lawrence County’s McConnells Mill State Park and Westminster College. Late last year, the film’s production team transformed the Westminster quadrangle into a set depicting the West Point military academy in 1830.
