Ellwood City Fall Baseball Teams Both Earn Playoff Appearances; JV Defeated In Championship

The Ellwood City High School baseball teams wrapped up their respective fall campaigns with a combined 23-7 record between varsity and junior varsity with playoff appearances obtained by each squad. The teams were compromised of 36 players ranging from 7th grade to 12th grade. Varsity finished 10-4 (2-1 in playoffs) and missed the championship game by one run tie-breaker while the Junior Varsity finished an impressive 13-3 regular season campaign (3-1 in playoffs) and reach the championship game, falling 12-8 to the Blackhawk Cougars. ELLWOOD Visits Lawrence County High Schools as Part of Manufacturing Week

Last week, representatives from ELLWOOD visited with students throughout Lawrence County to celebrate Manufacturing Week, a lead-up to National Manufacturing Day celebrated Friday, October 7, 2022. ELLWOOD joined with the Lawrence County School to Work to coordinate the effort of reaching each high school in the county over the four-day period. Manufacturing Day is celebrated each year on the first Friday in October and is the manufacturing industry’s biggest opportunity to educate students, inspire the next generation of creators and promote the many career opportunities available in manufacturing. PHOTOS: Riverside Homecoming Game, Panthers Fall To Western Beaver

The Riverside Panthers were defeated Friday night 49-21 by Western Beaver at Riverside Memorial Stadium. Running back Tyson Florence had a big game for Western Beaver, scoring six touchdowns in the victory over Riverside. The home game was the Riverside Homecoming with Elizabeth Frazier crowned the Riverside 2022 Homecoming Queen at halftime. The Golden Beavers improved to 6-1 on the regular season with the Riverside Panthers fell to an even 3-3 on their regular season campaign.

Palmer-McCain Runs Wild, Wolverines Collect Road Victory Over Lions

Elijah Palmer-McCain ran wild Friday night, collecting 231 yards on 32 carries and accounting for all three of offensive touchdowns for Ellwood City as the Wolverines collected their second victory of the season, a 18-13 road triumph over New Brighton. The sophomore runningback took the Wolverine’s first play from scrimmage 63 yards to the endzone for a touchdown and scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter to give the Ellwood City a 12-0 halftime advantage. Congratulations to the Lincoln High School 2022 Homecoming Court! The King will be crowned at a school wide pep rally on Friday, October 14th, and the Queen will be crowned that evening at halftime of the football game versus the Beaver Falls Tigers. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

HARASSMENT: On September 24, at approximately 6:43 p.m., PA State Police were dispatched to a known address on Beaver Street, Wampum Borough, for a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, both parties involved, Sharon Norris, 43, and Justin Norris, 45, were separated. One individual was treated at the scene for a minor head injury. Further investigation led to both parties receiving charges of harassment and disorderly conduct will be filed through MDJ 53-3-01. ARISE Kicks Off Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Mayor Anthony J. Court and Sgt. Michael McBride helped Jessica Mudger, Outreach Specialist for ARISE get the month long awareness program started in the borough. Lawrence County ARISE placed purple bows and signs throughout the Ellwood City downtown area in observance of the cause. The Ellwood City Police Department will also be wearing purple ribbon pins on their uniforms throughout the month.
