Bruce Allen Ives, 64

Bruce Allen Ives, 64, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022. He was born September 1, 1958, in Ellwood City, PA to Robert T. Ives and Ruth B. (Minkel) Ives. Bruce graduated from Valparaiso High School, Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and the University of Michigan with a master’s degree in Fine Arts. Bruce’s professional career was largely spent working for nonprofit organizations in Chicago. Bruce was a lover and supporter of the arts. Hack Wilson Historical Marker Among 36 New State Historical Markers Approved

A Hack Wilson Historical Marker is among the subjects of 36 new Pennsylvania Historical Markers approved by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC). The PA state marker is to be placed on State Route 65, Woodside Avenue, by Lincoln High School baseball fields. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society was instrumental in promoting Hack Wilson’s accomplishments. Lewis Robert “Hack” Wilson (1900–1948), was born in Ellwood City and was one of baseball’s greatest power hitters in the 1920s and 1930s. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT ALL OTHER: On December 5th, at approximately 11:51 a.m., PA State Police responded to a reported theft of a real estate sign. This occured near the intersection of 16th Street and W. Lawrence Ave., Wayne Township. This theft occurred approximately between 10/31 and 11/14 according to the report. The real estate sign is an Advantage Homes Real Estate sign that is predominately blue in color with white lettering. The sign is valued at $350.00. The investigation is ongoing. Ellwood City Winter Sports Tickets To Be Sold Online

Ellwood City Area School District will be slowly making the change to digital ticketing for all sports. The first round of ticketing for the Ellwood City Wolverines to be sold on-line will be for the 2022-23 Winter Sport Season. Tickets will be sold on-line at www.gofan.co or the Go Fan app. There will be no tickets sold at the school at this time. There will be a limited amount of Adult tickets, $5.00, and Adult season passes, $20.00, available to be purchased at the gate for each home game this season. The month of November hosts the holiday Thanksgiving. For many in the area, this year’s Thanksgiving holiday was hosted in a new home. According to RocketHomes.com, the median selling price for real estate in November in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania is up again versus the same period last year. Riverside High School Student Council will present its annual Senior Citizens Christmas Program & Dinner next week. The Ellwood City junior big man has led the young, upstart Wolverines to an early 3-0 regular season record after the Wolverines wrapped up the Laurel Tip-Off tournament by defeating the host Spartans 61-46 Monday night. PHOTOS: ‘Let There Be Lights’ & Christmas Parade

A series of events hosted by the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off the first weekend of December. Friday evening, Ellwood City held its “Let There Be Lights” downtown extravaganza that featured street vendors, live performances, and the lighting of the large holiday tree in the community plaza. On Saturday, Lawrence Avenue was greeted with floats, groups and trucks as part of the annual Christmas Parade.
