Riv-Ell Series Kicks Off The Baseball Season For Riverside & Ellwood City

What better way to roll out the spring baseball season, than to have two rivals host a home-and-home series? The crosstown rivals, Ellwood City and Riverside, each will quickly get acquainted with one another beginning Monday, March 27th when the Wolverines will host the Panthers in Ewing Park to begin regular season section play. COACH TALK: Ellwood City and Riverside Softball Teams Each Look To Continue Playoff Streaks

Both Ellwood City and Riverside softball teams will enter their 2023 regular season campaigns with sights set on returning to the WPIAL Playoffs, continuing streaks for both teams. For the Lady Wolverines, a playoff streak currently rests at eight straight seasons, and the girls will look to it nine this spring. Ellwood City Boys Tennis Defeated By Blackhawk

The Wolverines boys tennis team dropped its first match of the season, falling to Blackhawk 4-1 in Ewing Park Monday afternoon. Grady Smith picked up the lone victory for Ellwood City. Smith defeated Aiden Terry 6-2 and 7-5 in singles play. The Cougars used victories by Ben Crefeld (6-1, 6-2 over Ryan Odom) and Luke Shope (6-0, 6-0 over Anthony DiBuono) in singles play and swept doubles. The annual Lawrence County Earth Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 22rd at Ewing Park, Ellwood City from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The event will offer an eARTh Day Art and Photography Show. Charles “Charlie” Robert Monks, 66, of Franklin, Tennessee went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on March 7, 2023, at his home. He was born in Elwood City, Pennsylvania on November 9, 1956, to the late Robert Charles Monks and Bertha Enid Hodge Monks. He was an accomplished and awarded Electrical Sales Engineer for 30 years with Eaton Corporation. He was also a union electrician out of Local 712 in previous years. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

BURGLARY: On March 3rd at approximately 5:10 p.m., the PA State Police Beaver Station was dispatched to a business in Georgetown Borough, Beaver County for a report of a burglary. According to the police report, and at some time between 6:00 p.m and 4:45 a.m., unknown actor(s) forcibly entered the property of Georgetown Sand and Gravel, damaged the security system, the surveillance cameras and stole approximately $1,000 in cash. Ellwood City Bocce Team Advances To PIAA/SOPA State Championships

The Ellwood City Bocce Team has advanced to the PIAA/SOPA State Championships! The team collected three victories and a first place finish at the regional championships held last week at Geneva College. There were 10 schools from the different sections represented. The top two teams advanced, and the Wolverines were one of them. Ellwood City defeated Bethel Park, 7-2, and Pine Richland, 5-3, before wrapping up their impressive performance with a 12-2 victory over Chartiers Valley in their final match.
