VIDEO: Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Provides Update On East Palestine Train Derailment

In the following video made available Friday morning on the Facebook.com Page of Ohio Governer Mike DeWine, the Governor holds a media briefing update on the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. A Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous chemicals caught fire and derailed February 3rd, forcing evacuations near East Palestine in Columbiana County, a town of 4,700 residents that borders Pennsylvania. Ellwood City Wolves Den II February Meeting Recap

The Ellwood City Wolves Den II met at the Connequenessing Country Club on Wednesday February 8, 2023. The members welcomed new member Rich Griffith. The members voted to keep the current Board of Directors, consisting of nine members, for another three years. The club conducts three fundraisers that support their scholarship fund during the year. NOTICE: ECASD Schedules Buildings & Grounds Committee Meeting

According to information made available by the district this week, the Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors has scheduled a Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting on Thursday, March 9 2023. The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. followed by an already scheduled Regular Meeting of the Board at 7:00 p.m. The meetings will be held in the Board Room located in Lincoln Jr/Sr High School. The Ellwood City School District is located at 501 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

Annual Ellwood City Easter Egg Hunt Returns, Under New Guidance

The Ellwood Area Egg Hunt Committee is announcing their retirement. With their 27th Annual, and final, Community Easter Egghunt completed last year, the committee has retired and has turned the event over to new guidance. The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce will now be hosting the community Easter Egg Hunt event. This year’s event will take place Saturday, April 8th as their 1st Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt. Ellwood City Boys Basketball Playoff Tickets Available

Ellwood City Boys Basketball team’s opening round playoff game will be on Monday, February 20th at Deer Lake High School at 7:00 p.m. The Wolverines (15-7 Overall) drew a 12-seed as the fourth team from Section 1 Class 3A and will face a 5-seed Deer Lakes team (13-8 Overall, 10-2 Section 3) that tied for its section crown with Shady Side Academy. Ellwood City avenged a January loss to rival Riverside Friday night, collecting a 56-41 victory and clinching a playoff berth. This time they had the services of junior big man Joseph Roth, but it was another Wolverine starter that propelled the visiting Wolverines to victory Will Nardone entered Friday’s contest averaging under five points per contest, but the sophomore erupted for 21 points including more made 3-pointers (five) than his season average in points. The Ellwood City girls basketball team fell 56-26 Thursday night to the section leading Laurel Spartans as part of their Senior night festivities. Liz Mihalko, Brooke Roth, and Aliya Garroway were the three Ellwood City girls basketball seniors recognized in advance of the game. Claire Noble led the Wolverines on the court Thursday with a team-high 11 points while seniors Roth (6 points) and Mihalko (2 points) each collected points in their final home game.
