Daniel Joseph Swartz, 54

Daniel Joseph Swartz, 54, of Butler, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Allegheny General Hospital following a brief illness, with his family by his side. Born Feb. 5, 1969, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Daniel J. and Theresa M. Klir Swartz. He was employed as vice president of marketing at WesBanco Bank Inc., at the Ellwood City location. He was a member of the ABA (American Bankers Association). Dan was currently serving on the board of directors for the Butler County Chamber of Commerce. He served from 2007 to 2018. PA TURNPIKE: Total Reconstruction Project Underway Near Ellwood City Exit

For many Ellwoodians who use the convenience of the nearby PA Turnpike for travel, there is an extensive project underway that may have drawn some driver’s attention. According to Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission officials, construction is underway on a $270M total reconstruction and widening of two miles of the Turnpike’s east-west mainline (Interstate 76) between Milepost 12 and Milepost 14 in Beaver County that will include new interchange at the Exit 13 Beaver Valley (Beaver Falls/Ellwood City) exit. Panthers Sweep Mohawk, Earn Undefeated Section Championship

Riverside used a stellar performance by sophomore Christian Lucarelli Tuesday to wrap up a two game sweep of Mohawk and to collect its undefeated section championship. The Panthers (17-0 Overall, 12-0 Section 1-3A) pounced on the Warriors early Tuesday, putting up six runs in the first inning behind RBIs by Hunter Garvin, Mitch Garvin, Sam Barber, and Sean Hayes. Riverside added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to wrap up the 10-0 victory. Lucarelli, a Duke University commit, tossed a one-hitter, striking out 13 batters in his six inning performance. PHOTOS: Wolverines Fall To Shenango On Senior Night

Six Ellwood City Wolverine seniors were recognized in advance of the Wolverines final home game of its season Tuesday afternoon. Ellwood City was defeated by Shenango 14-1. Isaiah Lutz led the offense with two hits, including a double. Senior Blake Foreman collected the only other hit offensively as Ellwood City was stymied and held to three hits on the afternoon. Joseph Roth took the loss on the mound. Roth started and allowed six earned runs across three innings. Ellwood City Historical Society Announces 2023 Scholarship Winners

Three local students were awarded scholarships at the Ellwood City Historical Society on Monday. Sam Kline and Hayden Slade were each recipients of the $1,500.00 Robert & Janice Barensfeld Scholarships and Gabrielle Davis was the recipient of the $10,000.00 Marlene Painter Scholarship.  Davis and Slade are graduating seniors at Lincoln High School and Kline is a graduating senior at Riverside School District. The monthly meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society was called to order by Bob Morabito, President, reminding those present of the mission of the Society. PHOTOS: Tri-County Track & Field Championships

On Saturday, April 29th, athletes from the Riverside and Ellwood City boys and girls track and field teams competed in the 2023 Tri-County Track and Field Championships held at Shenango High School. The Ellwood City boys team placed second and the Riverside girls team placed fourth in their respective team standings.  The Riverside boys placed fifth while the Ellwood City girls placed sixth. ON DECK: Riverside Faces Mohawk For 2-Game Series After Gavin’s Walk-Off Beats Lancers On Friday

Riverside enters its final week of regular season play off a thrilling walk-off victory on Friday courtesy of a Mitch Garvin walk off double. Riverside (15-0 Overall, 10-0 Section 1-3A)  look to wrap up its undefeated regular season with a home-and-home two game series against Mohawk beginning Monday. The 2023 Lincoln High School Prom and Ellwood City Area After Prom was a big success! This year’s after prom was held the evening of Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Lincoln Jr. Sr High Big Gym. The after prom included: a casino game night filled with prizes and fun, a hypnotist show, photo booth, and lots of yummy food.
