Ellwood City House Shooting Suspects Charged, Identified

Three men are charged with five counts of criminal attempt at criminal homicide, aggravated assault with a firearm and recklessly endangering other persons, and one count each of persons not to possess a firearm and discharging a gun into an occupied structure after an incident on Beaver Avenue early Saturday in Ellwood City.

Terry Janiel, 20, Daniel Dourlain Jr., 20, and Joseph Beighley, 23, all of Ellwood City are charged according to criminal complaints filed against each individual.

According to the complaint, Beighley received a request for a ride from Janiel just after midnight and that Janiel told him they had received an anonymous Snapchat message offering $1,000 and cocaine in exchange for shooting the house.

Beighley drove Janiel and Dourlain to West Lawrence Avenue where Janiel and Dourlain exited the vehicle with two 9mm handguns belonging to Beighley and opened fire on a house at 1123 Beaver Street.

Over a dozen bullets hit the house and six bullets hit a silver Jeep parked in the driveway at a neighboring house on Beaver Street. Police officers collected 27 9-millimeter shell casings from the road according to the complaint.

Police determined there were five people in the residence when the shots were fired and the target reported to police that he was threatened by individuals two weeks earlier and a woman told an officer Dourlain and another man were planning to rob him.

After the gunfire Beighley picked up Janiel and Dourlain and took them to a house on McKim Way in Franklin Township

Beighley stated that both firearms used in the incident are registered to him and that Janiel removed one of the firearms from his safe without his permission the complaint relates. Beighley further stated that he had a second handgun in his vehicle on the night of the incident which he does not believe was used.

After Beighley was questioned by police, he was released before charges were filed against him. He remains at large and is wanted on a warrant.

On Monday, April 6th Ohio State police conducted a traffic stop for speeding on a vehicle registered to Abigail Nahar and during the stop two male occupants, later identified as Janiel and Dourlain, exited the vehicle and fled on foot through a field on W. South Range Road in Beaver Township, Ohio. Both were apprehended and taken into custody and troopers reported the individuals appeared to discard an object while fleeing. The female driver reportedly stayed in the car and cooperated with police.

According to the complaint, police learned the two men and the driver booked a hotel room in North Lima, Ohio. Police searched the room and reportedly found a clear plastic 30-round magazine they believe was used in the shooting.

Janiel and Dourlain each have outstanding warrants prior to this incident.

The pair is also charged in Mahoning County with obstructing official business and tampering with evidence and were arraigned on their Mahoning County charges Tuesday and remain in the Mahoning County Jail according to reports.
