A new chapter in local business is unfolding as Ellks Floor Coverings added its second location to Lawrence Avenue, bringing a mix of experience, personal service, and community focus to the area.
Owned by Kyle Ellks, the company has steadily grown from its roots in flooring and home improvement into a full-service retail and installation operation. Now, with expansion into Ellwood City, Ellks is aiming to build lasting relationships while offering homeowners and businesses a trusted local option.
“I started in the flooring and home improvement field in 2017 and officially built Ellks Floor Coverings into a full retail and installation business as it continued to grow. Since then, we’ve expanded services and are now opening our second location,” Ellks said.
The new store represents both an opportunity and a strategic move. Ellks explained that the expansion came together through industry connections.
“I’ve wanted to expand for a while. One day my sales rep and I started talk and he mentioned a flooring store that wanted to retire and it was a perfect opportunity with a beautiful store that had huge potential,” he said.
Built on Experience and Work Ethic
Ellks brings years of hands-on industry knowledge to the business, with experience spanning sales, installation, and project management. His background began early.
“I have years of hands-on experience in flooring sales, installation, and project management. I’ve worked directly in homes, rentals, and commercial spaces, so I understand both the product side and the installation side since I was in middle school working for family in the construction field,” he said.
That foundation continues to shape how the company operates today, offering a range of services including carpet, hardwood, laminate, and luxury vinyl plank and tile, along with installation for residential and light commercial projects.
The business is fully insured and positioned as a professional flooring retailer and installer, but Ellks emphasizes that technical capability is only part of the equation.
“And customer service is my number one!” he said.
A Family-Driven Approach
At its core, Ellks Floor Coverings is a family-run operation — something the owner says defines both the culture and the customer experience.
“We’re a local, family-run business that focuses on honest pricing, personal service, and helping customers understand their options. We’re not just selling flooring — we’re helping people make the right decision for their home and budget,” Ellks said.
That perspective is shaped by his own life. Ellks lives in Hubbard, Ohio, with his family.
“I have a lovely wife, a 1-year-old daughter and a 8-year-old son,” he said.
Outside of work, he stays busy balancing business ownership with family life and personal interests.
“Outside of work, I enjoy motorsports, being involved with my kids’ activities, and on the side starting a roll off company,” he said.
Challenges and Growth
Like many small business owners, Ellks acknowledges that growth comes with challenges.
“Balancing growth with time. As a business owner, you wear many hats,” he said. “A really big challenge is getting our name out there as a new company.”
Despite those hurdles, expansion into Ellwood City signals confidence in both the market and the company’s trajectory.
Looking ahead, Ellks is focused on building a strong local presence.
“Growing in the Ellwood City area, building long-term relationships, and continuing to expand our product lines and services,” he said.
The hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with updates and additional details available through its website and Facebook page.
While hiring is not currently planned for the Ellwood City location, Ellks sees the new storefront as a long-term investment — not just in business growth, but in community connection.
