POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

RESISTING ARREST: According to a Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Release Report, Andrew Mercado, 33, of Koppel, was charged with resisting arrest after a warrant was executed on February 10, 2021. According to the report, Mercado was uncooperative and was subsequently charged with resisting arrest at a Wayne Township residence. Charges filed and will be pending through the District Magistrate Jerry Cartwright office. Mercado was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail. Weisz Named ECASD Varsity Baseball Coach

Chris Weisz has been named the Ellwood City Area School District’s Boys Baseball Coach for the 2021 season. Weisz grew up in Ellwood City and still lives here with his wife, Gabriella, and their three sons Gavyn (9), Greyson (4), and Geno (1). Borough of Ellwood City Looking For Zoning Board Applicants

The Ellwood City Borough Council is advertising the vacancies on the Zoning Hearing Board and looking for applicants. The Borough is seeking one (1) applicant for the Zoning Hearing Board and two (2) applicants for Zoning Hearing Board Alternate. Any Borough resident interested in serving on any of the above positions is asked to submit a letter of interest to the Borough Secretary, 525 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Hall Industries Expands Into New Facility In Grove City, Creating 57 New Jobs

Hall Industries, an Ellwood City family-owned engineering and manufacturing company with multiple locations in the commonwealth, will streamline its operations in western Pennsylvania into a new facility in Mercer County, creating 57 jobs, Governor Tom Wolf announced this week. Hall Industries will acquire the 468,000-square-foot Cooper Industrial Commons—a brownfield site in Grove City—and will renovate, purchase new machinery and equipment, and provide employee training. While certain operations will be streamlined to the new facility, the company’s existing Pennsylvania facilities will remain open. Trash Collection Proposal, Code Enforcement Priorities for Borough Officials

During Ellwood City Borough Council’s February 15 meeting, Borough Manager David Allen said he is continuing to work on a proposal for trash collection. “I am confident we will be able to meet the needs of all of our citizens,” he said. Allen also said although there has not been any court cases related to code enforcement in the borough because of COVID, officials are still keeping their eyes open for violations.
