All three local teams competing Tuesday in the opening round of their respective WPIAL playoffs earned victories. RIVERSIDE 4 KEYSTONE OAKS 1 Hunter Garvin and Zack Hare combined for a no-hitter as top seeded Riverside earned a 4-1 victory over Keystone Oaks on Tuesday. Hare struck out nine batters on the afternoon but Keystone Oaks scored the games first run in the fourth inning without the aid of a hit. Ellwood City used a late rally, on the road, Monday to earn a 6-4 victory against unbeaten section foe Central Valley. After training 4-0 entering the top of the six inning, the Wolverines struck for four runs and added two more in the seventh to pull away to victory. Ellie Kalantzis connected on a pivotal home run in the sixth inning rally and Kiley LeViere singled in the frame to knot the score. Senior Samantha Rosenberger swatted a solo home run at the plate and struck out 15 Freedom Bulldogs on the mound Wednesday as the Lady Panthers defeated Freedom 8-4. Riverside raced out to an 8-0 advantage before the host Bulldogs gathered four runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Left fielder Danielle Rosenberger collected four singles to lead the Panthers offensively while Camryn Friello collected three hits. Rosenberger added three steals. Central Valley jumped out to a 5-0 lead and withstood a furious late inning rally by the Lady Wolverines to come out with a 5-4 victory on Saturday.
