Central Valley Withstands Furious Rally By The Lady Wolverines To Hold Onto A 5-4 Victory

Central Valley jumped out to a 5-0 lead and withstood a furious late inning rally by the Lady Wolverines to come out with a 5-4 victory on Saturday. After the Warriors made it 5-0 in the fourth by scoring three times, Ellwood City started its rally in the sixth inning. Aliya Garroway led off with a bloop double down the right field line and scored on a single to left by Sara Schwarz. Both Ellwood City and Riverside softball teams will enter their 2023 regular season campaigns with sights set on returning to the WPIAL Playoffs, continuing streaks for both teams. For the Lady Wolverines, a playoff streak currently rests at eight straight seasons, and the girls will look to it nine this spring. The Riverside Panthers held on Thursday afternoon, escaping late inning jams, to defeat Carmichaels 3-2 and advance to the WPIAL Class-2A semifinals. The Ellwood City Wolverines softball team saw an early lead evaporate quickly as they were defeated by Southmoreland 14-4 in the WPIAL Class-3A quarterfinals. EC Varsity Softball Team Beats Keystone Oaks In 9 Innings

After a tough loss to Avonworth in which both the defense and offense struggled, the Lady Wolverines put together their most balanced team effort Saturday afternoon at Keystone Oaks to secure a 5-4 extra inning victory over the Golden Eagles. The pitching was solid, seven different players banged out 17 hits, and the defense turned in their best performance on the young season by committing just one error.
