Riverside made easy work of the visiting Lions Friday night and claimed a playoff berth with their 52-7 blow out victory over New Brighton. The Panthers raced out to early leads of 20-0 after one quarter and a 40-0 advantage at halftime in the Midwestern Athletic Conference action. Sophomore Elijah Palmer-McCaine rushed for another 115 yards and two touchdowns for the host Wolverines, but it was not enough to overcome a Tigers aerial attack as Ellwood City was defeated 42-13 Friday night at Helling Stadium in a WPIAL Class 2A Midwestern Conference game. PHOTOS: Riverside Homecoming Game, Panthers Fall To Western Beaver

The Riverside Panthers were defeated Friday night 49-21 by Western Beaver at Riverside Memorial Stadium. Running back Tyson Florence had a big game for Western Beaver, scoring six touchdowns in the victory over Riverside. The home game was the Riverside Homecoming with Elizabeth Frazier crowned the Riverside 2022 Homecoming Queen at halftime. The Golden Beavers improved to 6-1 on the regular season with the Riverside Panthers fell to an even 3-3 on their regular season campaign.

Palmer-McCain Runs Wild, Wolverines Collect Road Victory Over Lions

Elijah Palmer-McCain ran wild Friday night, collecting 231 yards on 32 carries and accounting for all three of offensive touchdowns for Ellwood City as the Wolverines collected their second victory of the season, a 18-13 road triumph over New Brighton. The sophomore runningback took the Wolverine’s first play from scrimmage 63 yards to the endzone for a touchdown and scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter to give the Ellwood City a 12-0 halftime advantage. The longest losing streak (27 games) in the WPIAL is officially over as the Wolverines cruised to their first victory in 4 years, defeating the Carlynton Cougars 46-6 on Friday night. The Cougars started the night off with electing to receive the ball after winning the coin toss, showing that they wanted to start on offense early. This back fired quickly as a fumble recovery by #20 Jackson Kerr at the 10:35 mark set up the Wolverines with great field position at the Cougars 35 yard line. Wolverines Fall Short In Season Opening Loss At Brentwood

Week Zero is officially in the books for the WPIAL as over 100 teams were in uniform during the Friday/Saturday action. The Wolverines made a trip down to Brentwood High School to take on the Spartans to begin the 2022 football campaign. Both teams in recent years have had a tough time on the gridiron, but the game did not disappoint. Sam Hughes scampered for two touchdowns to lead the Riverside Panthers to their first victory of the season, a 19-0 victory over rival Ellwood City on Friday night during Homecoming at Riverside’s Memorial Stadium. Madeline Dimeo was named Riverside Homecoming Queen during halftime. Hughes, who finished with 90 yards rushing, scored from 21 years and 19 yards while Brady Barton found the endzone on a 45 yard touchdown for the Panthers (1-4, 1-6 overall). Riverside used the ground attack to run over the host Wolverines 27-12 Friday night at Helling Stadium. Calvin Hughes led the ground attack for Riverside finishing with 169 yards rushing on 28 carries and a score while quarterback Sam Hughes scored twice on the ground and finished with 41 yards rushing for the victorious Panthers. Tickets on Sale For Ellwood City/Riverside Football Game

Adult Tickets for the Ellwood City versus Riverside football game to be played on Friday, October 16th will be sold on Thursday, Oct 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the hallway by the large gymnasium at Lincoln High School. Ticket price is $5.00 and no tickets will be sold at the gate.  According to the district, masks are required and COVID-19 waiver must be signed to enter the stadium.  Social distancing will still be recommended with the limited attendance. Student tickets will be sold on Wednesday and Thursday of this week during school hours in the Principal’s Office….

Ellwood City Homecoming Queen & King Announced

Congratulations are in order for the 2020 Ellwood City Homecoming Queen and King! The winners were announced Friday night during the Ellwood City varsity football game at Helling Stadium that pitted the Wolverines against Beaver Falls.  Ellwood City was defeated 54-26 in the football contest. The game was streamed on the EC Wolverines YouTube.com webpage while the ceremony and crowning was live streamed on the Ellwood City Cheerleaders Facebook Page.
