Palmer-McCain Runs Wild, Wolverines Collect Road Victory Over Lions

Elijah Palmer-McCain ran wild Friday night, collecting 231 yards on 32 carries and accounting for all three of offensive touchdowns for Ellwood City as the Wolverines collected their second victory of the season, a 18-13 road triumph over New Brighton. The sophomore runningback took the Wolverine’s first play from scrimmage 63 yards to the endzone for a touchdown and scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter to give the Ellwood City a 12-0 halftime advantage. SPORTS: The Streak Is Over!; RHS Tennis Defeats Wolverines; EC Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

The longest losing streak (27 games) in the WPIAL is officially over as the Wolverines cruised to their first victory in 4 years, defeating the Carlynton Cougars 46-6 on Friday night. The Cougars started the night off with electing to receive the ball after winning the coin toss, showing that they wanted to start on offense early. This back fired quickly as a fumble recovery by #20 Jackson Kerr at the 10:35 mark set up the Wolverines with great field position at the Cougars 35 yard line. Wolverines Fall Short In Season Opening Loss At Brentwood

Week Zero is officially in the books for the WPIAL as over 100 teams were in uniform during the Friday/Saturday action. The Wolverines made a trip down to Brentwood High School to take on the Spartans to begin the 2022 football campaign. Both teams in recent years have had a tough time on the gridiron, but the game did not disappoint. The Wolverines battled to the very end in the non-conference game, but five turnovers doomed the visiting squad as Ellwood City came up just short, 34-21. PHOTOS: Panthers Earn Homecoming Victory Over Wolverines

Sam Hughes scampered for two touchdowns to lead the Riverside Panthers to their first victory of the season, a 19-0 victory over rival Ellwood City on Friday night during Homecoming at Riverside’s Memorial Stadium. Madeline Dimeo was named Riverside Homecoming Queen during halftime. Hughes, who finished with 90 yards rushing, scored from 21 years and 19 yards while Brady Barton found the endzone on a 45 yard touchdown for the Panthers (1-4, 1-6 overall). Riverside Runs Over Rival Ellwood City, 27-12

Riverside used the ground attack to run over the host Wolverines 27-12 Friday night at Helling Stadium. Calvin Hughes led the ground attack for Riverside finishing with 169 yards rushing on 28 carries and a score while quarterback Sam Hughes scored twice on the ground and finished with 41 yards rushing for the victorious Panthers. Tickets on Sale For Ellwood City/Riverside Football Game

Adult Tickets for the Ellwood City versus Riverside football game to be played on Friday, October 16th will be sold on Thursday, Oct 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the hallway by the large gymnasium at Lincoln High School. Ticket price is $5.00 and no tickets will be sold at the gate.  According to the district, masks are required and COVID-19 waiver must be signed to enter the stadium.  Social distancing will still be recommended with the limited attendance. Student tickets will be sold on Wednesday and Thursday of this week during school hours in the Principal’s Office….

Ellwood City Homecoming Queen & King Announced

Congratulations are in order for the 2020 Ellwood City Homecoming Queen and King! The winners were announced Friday night during the Ellwood City varsity football game at Helling Stadium that pitted the Wolverines against Beaver Falls.  Ellwood City was defeated 54-26 in the football contest. The game was streamed on the EC Wolverines YouTube.com webpage while the ceremony and crowning was live streamed on the Ellwood City Cheerleaders Facebook Page. Panthers Playoff Run Ended, Defeated by Avonworth

Riverside’s magical playoff run was thwarted Friday night, falling 41-14 to #2 seed Avonworth in the WPIAL Class 2A semifinal at West Allegheny Friday night. The vastly underseeded Panthers knocked off #3 seed Burgettstown and #6 seed McGuffey to enter the contest as the first No. 14 seed to reach the WPIAL semifinals since Central Valley did it in 2010. Riverside only trialed 13-0 at halftime, unable to capitalize on two possessions reaching inside the Antelopes 10 yard line. The Riverside Panthers offensive onslaught continued as it trounced sixth-seeded McGuffey, 41-27, on Friday night in their WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal contest at Montour. Riverside (8-3 overall) rolled for over 330 total yards of offense in their victory over McGuffey (9-3 overall) one week after dropping a 40-spot on #3 Burgettstown. After exchanging scores to begin the contest, Riverside’s offense answered and then used a defensive pick-six to stretch their first half lead to a comfortable 27-6 margin. Riverside Roars Back Late, Upsets Burgettstown

Riverside overcame a 15-point second half deficit to rally back and upset #3 seed, and host Burgettstown 42-35 in overtime Friday night in WPIAL Class-AA opening round playoff action. Riverside (7-3 overall) roared back with Ben Hughes tallying the game tying score and two-point conversion midway through the 4th quarter. After the teams exchanged unsuccessful possessions late, the game bled to overtime where the Panthers secured the upset.
