David Allen Attends Last Meeting As Ellwood City Borough Manager; Council Welcomes Kevin Swogger

David Allen attended his last Ellwood City Borough Council Meeting as Borough Manager Monday night. During his four years serving the community, he fought for the sale of the Ellwood City Medical Center following years of controversy following its closing. He also had to manage the city during the pandemic. Council members expressed thanks to Allen and wished him well in his next chapter. Officer Howard Sworn In To The Ellwood City Police Department

Mayor Anthony J. Court swore in Officer Joseph Howard into the Ellwood City Police Department this week. The new officer was sworn in at Mayor Court’s office on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Officer Howard is a part-time officer with the department.  A motion to approve his employment was passed the Ellwood City Borough Council during its November council meeting. Mayor Court proudly welcomed Officer Howard to the police force and noted that he is looking forward to working with him. The Ellwood City Police Department now has 11 full-time officers and 3 part-time officers in the department.


Borough Of Ellwood City Advertising Upcoming Board Vacancies

According to information made available by the borough, the Ellwood City Borough Council is advertising the vacancies on the following Boards and Commissions of Ellwood City Borough: Zoning Hearing Board, EC Planning Commission, Library Board, Board of Health, and Recreation Board. Any Borough resident interested in serving on any of the above positions is asked to submit a letter of interest to the Borough Secretary, 525 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Ellwood City Borough Council Enacts Advanced Life Support (ALS) Program, hires Borough Manager

Ellwood City Borough Council voted to adopt an ordinance, creating an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Program and to advertise an ordinance creating a 1 mill tax for those services. The move comes following a voter referendum on November 8 during the election in which a majority of voters were in favor of the program. During the October Council meeting, The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation presented the Ellwood City Fire Department a check for $175,000. Fire Department to Start Advanced Life Support Program with Ellwood City Community Health Foundation Funding, Council Support

The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation presented the Ellwood City Fire Department a check for $175,000 during Monday’s council meeting. Council voted unanimously to advertise an ordinance creating an Advanced Life Support Program, as well as an agreement that the program will be partially funded by the Health Foundation’s funding. In an additional move to staff the program and provide services to the residents of Ellwood City, council established the wage for part-time paramedics and a full-time paramedic captain as $20 per hour. Borough Council Welcomes Jr. Councilperson; to hire Borough Manager

Ellwood City Borough Council welcomed Jr. Councilperson Kaden Schlichtkrull during the regular meeting Monday night. Schlichtkrull, a senior at Lincoln High School, was administered the oathe of office by Mayor Anthony Court before joining council at the table. He’s also involved in cross country, track, tennis, student council, and plays the trumpet in the band. Council Promotes Ellwood City Police Officer to Sergeant

Ellwood City Borough Council voted Monday night to promote Ellwood City Police Officer Rob Magnifico to sergeant. Council had a choice to make in promoting one officer or two. Magnifico along with fellow Officer Matt Kennedy were the choices to fill the position. Councilman Caleb Cragle and Councilwoman Jan Williams voted to promote two officers but were met with opposition from the rest of council. Borough to Seek Residents for Comprehensive Plan Committee

Ellwood City Borough Council voted to accept letters of interest from Borough residents willing to serve on the Comprehensive Plan Committee. The Comprehensive Plan Committee shall consist of three Council members, Borough Manager David Allen, and five Borough residents. Borough Council Approves Proposed Referendum for 1 Mill Tax Increase on November Ballot

Ellwood City Borough Council plans to request that the Lawrence County Election Board place a referendum on the November 2022 ballot asking the electors of Ellwood City to approve a one (1) mill tax for ambulance, rescue, and other emergency services to provide advanced life support.
