Jeffrey E. Thomas, 74, of Fombell, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at PAM Health Heritage Valley. Born on July 1, 1949 in Bellevue, PA Jeff was the son of the late Ed and Donna Bergman Thomas. He graduated from Riverside High School in 1967 and from the Community College of Beaver County in 1971 with a degree in drafting and machine design. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Karin Marie Nussbaum. Karin was born in Germany on March 12, 1957, to Hans and Erna (Belka) Nussbaum and came to America as a nine-month old. She grew up in Ellwood City in a happy neighborhood. She graduated from Ellwood City High School in 1977 and later from Jameson Nursing School in New Castle. She became a cardiac nurse and worked in Central Medical Hospital in Pittsburgh for a number of years. ln her youth, she loved camping, hiking and riding horses. The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors elected a president, vice president, and also appointed a new board member to a vacant seat. Jennifer Tomon was named president in a unanimous vote by the board. The board was split, however, on the vice president seat between Jean Biehls (supporters: Claire Fauzey, Erica Gray, and newly elected Kevin Boariu) and Kathy Galbreth (supporters: Norman Boots, Kathy Tillia, Jennifer Tomon). Franklin Township is currently accepting applications to fill the position of a full-time Police Chief. Emotions regarding the proposed girls softball field continued to run high during Thursday night’s regular meeting of the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors. CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES: Aaron Perri, 31, of Ellwood City, is charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of operating a vehicle without an official certificate of inspection after a traffic stop on October 31st. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 12:41 a.m., Ellwood City police pulled over a vehicle with an expired state inspection sticker and found the passenger, Ryan Carr, had a warrant for his arrest. SIMPLE ASSAULT: James Hammond, 28, of Wampum, is charged with Simple Assault and Terroristic Threats after an incident on October 14th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 10:20 p.m., PA State Police responded to an inactive domestic altercation at a residence on Guy Way, Wayne Township to be informed a female had been physically attacked by her boyfriend and that he vacated in a grey car.
