George Tirlea, Jr., 88

Mr. George Tirlea, Jr., 88, of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, February 15th, 2024 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver.

Mr. Tirlea was born in Ellwood City on March 25th, 1935 the son of the late George and Anna (Lankarjan) Tirlea, Sr.. He is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1954 and the St. Elias Romanian Orthodox Church where he had served as a trustee. Following high school, George served with the United States Army from 1954 until his discharge from the Army reserves in 1962 with the 430th Quartermaster Company at Fort Lee in Virginia with the rank of Corporal. George then worked at the Aetna Standard and Blaw Knox Engineering Companies as a clerk and driver until he retired in 1986. After retiring George worked part time for Allied Auto as a parts deliveryman. While in the Army George was a drummer with the Army band and later with the Bel-Aires Band in clubs in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. He is also a past member of the MOOSE Lodge #93 and the Romanian Aid Society.

George is survived by his sister Mary Jane Middleton of Philadelphia, nephews George J. Sasaran, Mark, Scott, and Jeffrey Middleton, along with many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Frances A. Sasaran in 1997.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from Noon until the time of the service at 1:00 pm at the St. Elias Romanian Orthodox Church in Ellwood City with Father Seraphim Moslener officiating. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the church by 2:00 pm to conduct full military honors. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc..
