ECASD Board of Directors Approve Changes to High School Curriculum; Face More Feedback from CEPP Group

Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors approved requested changes to the High School Curriculum during the February 8, 2024 regular meeting. The changes were requested by Lincoln High School Principals, Mike Garvin and John Sovich. Garvin spoke previously at the committee meeting saying that the changes would benefit the students and have been a long time coming. Borough Manager Provides Update on Wampum Avenue Pump Station Project During Council Regular Meeting

During the regular meeting of Ellwood City Borough Coucil Tuesday night, Borough Manager Kevin Swogger said the Wampum Avenue Pump Station Project is about 40 percent completed. The Borough had announced the start of the project in October in an effort to improve the infrastructure in the area. The project is a sewer upgrade for multiple existing sewer transport lines in the wooded area East of Wampum Ave. A pump station will also be built to collect from these lines to be transported to the Ellwood City Borough Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment. Officer Robert Bird Receives A Commendation For Life Saving Act

Officer Robert Bird received a commendation from Mayor Anthony J. Court for his heroic acts that saved a man’s life. Officer Bird was dispatched to a vehicle that crashed into a residence on Orchard Avenue in Ellwood City last week. Upon arrival he encountered a truck that caught fire. The driver of which was trapped inside suffering from a medical emergency. ASSAULT/BURGLARY: A 17-year-old teenager from Wampum is charged with Assault With a Weapon after a Burglary attempt on January 6th. According to a police report, and at approximately 1:51 a.m., police say he broke into a residence on McKim Way, Franklin Township, Beaver County and assaulted two people inside. PA State Police say a 41-year-old man who owned the home noticed a burglar walking down the stairs of his house, later identified as the 17-year-old boy. ECASD Board of Directors Nominate Candidate to the MIU IV Board; Ewing Park Residents Speak Against Field Usage

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors unanimously nominated new Director Kevin Boariu to the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV (MIU IV) Board. Director Jean Biehls made the motion to nominate Boariu. The MIU IV Board will now have to accept the ECASD Board’s nomination. Jeffrey E. Thomas, 74, of Fombell, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at PAM Health Heritage Valley. Born on July 1, 1949 in Bellevue, PA Jeff was the son of the late Ed and Donna Bergman Thomas. He graduated from Riverside High School in 1967 and from the Community College of Beaver County in 1971 with a degree in drafting and machine design.
