Emotions regarding the proposed girls softball field continued to run high during Thursday night’s regular meeting of the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors. Board President Kathy Galbreath made a statement on behalf of the board. “We remain steadfast in our support for this field.” She cited that the board’s unanimous vote to construct a field at the location of the old Ewing Park School is based on facts and information along with a commitment to district goals. CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES: Aaron Perri, 31, of Ellwood City, is charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of operating a vehicle without an official certificate of inspection after a traffic stop on October 31st. Mrs. Socorro “Coring” (Dejelo) Zalamea, 83, of Ellwood City passed away on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna, Ohio. Mrs. Zalamea was born on September 25th, 1940 in Sampaloc, Philippines to the late Leon and Julia (Tejada) Dejelo. She had graduated from the Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines having earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 1961. Mr. Joseph C. Nardone, 96, of Koppel, passed away peacefully on October 8th, 2023. Born November 1st, 1926, in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Charles & Rose (Petti) Nardone. Joe graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1944. He served in the US Army from February 1st, 1945 until his honorable discharge on November 22nd, 1946 with the 86th Infantry Division stationed in the Philippines with the rank of Sargant.
