Dennis “Denny” L. Cortez, 67, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 at the PAM Hospital at Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver. Denny was born in Ellwood City on June 26th, 1956 the son of the late David R. and Katherine (Kast) Cortez. Mr. James R. Smilak, 74, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center. Mr. Smilak was born in New Brighton on September 11th, 1948 to the late Alex and Rose (Simko) Smilak. He is a member of the Beaver Falls High School class of 1966. James enlisted with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War on November 28th, 1967 and served until his honorable discharge on July 11th, 1969 with the rank of SP 4. Kathleen “Kathy” Russo, 75, of Ellwood City, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren, Ohio. Born in Ellwood City on October 10, 1947, Kathy was the daughter of Doreen Hewitson Tomon of Ellwood City and the late Louis Tomon.  She married Dominick Russo on April 26, 1969 and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2022.  Kathy was a member of Divine Grace Parish.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, crafting and watching game shows. Joseph Carmen Mangelli Jr., 41, of Koppel passed away on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center following an extended illness. Susan Elizabeth Pratt, 66

Susan Elizabeth Pratt, 66, passed away peacefully at UPMC Jameson Hospital on June 1, 2023, after a six-year battle with cancer. She was born on October 22, 1956 in Ellwood City to the late Dominick and Elizabeth Pratt.  Susan graduated from Lincoln Jr.-Sr. High School in Ellwood City in 1974. She continued her education at Beaver County Community College, graduating in 1980 with an associate degree in medical laboratory technology.
