Wrestling Meeting To Be Held Monday

There will be a wrestling meeting for all parents with students in grades 7-12 at Riverside and Ellwood City who are interested in wrestling.   The meeting on Monday, November 19 beginning at 6:00pm. The meeting will take place in the Ellwood City School District cafeteria.  All interested in wrestling are welcome to attend the public meeting. The Wolverines wrestling team, led by head coach Craig Alberts, had an impressive season in 2018, led by Donavin Chambers who received the Silver Medalist at the Southwest Wrestling Regional and qualified for states. Ellwood City Senior Signs With Robert Morris

Lincoln High School Senior Ariana Garroway has decided to continue her softball career by signing with Robert Morris University. Leading up to this opportunity has been years of hard work in her varsity softball career. Within the past three years, Garroway had proven herself to her coach multiple times. Ellwood City Varsity Football Head Coach Contract Terminated

The Ellwood City Area School District has terminated the contract of varsity head coach Nick Hand. Hand stepped down prior to the 2018 season due to an illness. Rob Magnifico, who had been with the program for over 10 years, was named interim head coach for the 2018 season, the team’s first in the recently reclassified Class 2A. “The Ellwood City Area School District and Mr. Nick Hand have mutually and amicably decided that he would not return as varsity football coach for the 2019 season, due to reasons unrelated to his performance as a coach,” said school superintendent Joe…

Stiefel Hockey Fall Session Wrapup: Darkness, The Alchemists Take Titles

Two local roller hockey teams collected recent championships in the Stiefel Hockey Fall League.  The A League champions were Darkness, who had bested Rage 5-1 in the finale, while The Alchemists claimed a repeat championship in the B League. Darkness finished the fall season with a 7-1 regular season record and the team led the A League in goal differential. Jake Hopper led Darkness with 23 points (15 goals, 8 assists) during the fall session regular season. Charleroi Shrugs Off Sluggish Start, Defense Helps Upend Riverside

Charleroi shrugged off a sluggish started and used defensive plays in the second half to turn momentum, avoid another upset, and come away with a 35-21 victory over Riverside Friday night at Myron Pottios Stadium. After trailing 14-0 in the first half and later in the third quarter, the #4 seed Cougars scored 21 unanswered points to upend the 13-seeded Panthers. Date Released For 2018 Ellwood City Powderpuff Games

This years Ellwood City Powderpuff games will be played on Wednesday, November 14. The games will be played at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Between the 81 girls signed up to play, freshman will play against the sophomores, with the big game of the juniors playing the unbeaten senior team. The games are a big fundraiser for the cheerleaders. The money not only goes towards their banquet in February, but they will also be making a donation for Club Hope at Lincoln High School. Club Hope is a borough nonprofit that has been helping people that have been affected by cancer…

Panthers Set To Travel For WPIAL Playoff Opening Round Game

The Riverside Panthers will make an 80-mile journey and travel to Charleroi on Friday for their opening round game Friday night at 7:30pm in Carroll Township. The Panthers (6-3 overall) gathered a 13-seed in the Class-AA WPIAL Playoffs and will open with a defacto road game against Interstate Conference champion Charleroi (8-1 overall) on the Cougars home turf. Riverside is led by junior Ben Hughes (6-2, 200, Jr., QB) and senior LeMarcus Cleckley on offense. PHOTOS: Riverside Panthers Knocked Off By A Late New Brighton Touchdown

New Brighton backer Ashton Fath scored with less than a minute in regulation to boost the Lions to a 22-16 road victory over the Panthers Friday night. Riverside held a 13-8 halftime lead on the strength of a Nathan Sciarro touchdown run and Ben Hughes 10-yard touchdown pass and led midway through the final quarter. As if one overtime was not enough on a wet and sloppy Friday Night, the Ellwood City and Brentwood non-conference game stretched over three hours and into a third overtime before the Wolverine came out victorious, 34-26, to cap off their 2018 season in victorious fashion. Ellwood City Senior Brady Welsh scored on a 6-yard run to secure a triple overtime and led a Wolverine defense that stifled Brentwood’s last chance in the third OT frame as fellow senior Ricky Pitrelli intercepted a final pass attempt by Brentwood QB John Milcic. Panthers, Lady Wolverines Both Looking To Advance In WPIAL Playoffs Thursday

Two local high school teams will continue their championship quests in their respective WPIAL playoff games Thursday evening. The Riverside boys soccer team marched onto the second round of the Class 1A WPIAL Playoffs with a 2-0 victory Monday night over Carlynton. The Panthers (11-2-1 overall) are set to face off against Avonworth Thursday evening at Ambridge with a 6:30 game time.  Avonworth defeated Mohawk 4-0 in their opening round contest.
