Boariu, Wolverines Emerge Victorious Against Rochester

A near triple-double performance by Wolverine senior Broc Boariu propelled Ellwood City to a 64-41 victory over Rochester on Tuesday at Lincoln High School.

Boariu finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Wolverines to the coast-to-coast victory.  Ellwood City never trailed in the contest.

The Wolverines pulled ahead early with an 18-point first quarter on the strength of a 9-2 run, eventually claiming a 34-20 lead by halftime.  Rochester cut the lead to as little as three points in the third quarter, but Ellwood City held the Rams to only four 4th quarter points to put the game to rest.

Boariu had a great game from the field, making 50% (9-for-18) of shots attempted as well as 44% (4-for-9) of threes attempted. He also shot well from the line, making 80% (4-for-5) of free throws attempted.

Two other players also added ten or more points for the Wolverines. Rick Pitrelli put two three-pointers on the board and scored 16 points total (8 rebounds, 4 assists).  Steve Antuono put up 11 points.

Also helping the effort for Lincoln were Ryan Gibbons (6 points, 4 rebounds), Milo Sesti (2 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals), and Isiah Leos-Coleman (2 points).

Darious Goosby led Rochester with 16 points (6-19 FG, 11 rebounds) in defeat.

Ellwood City (1-1 overall) finished the game with 40 rebounds (14 offensive / 26 defensive), one block and 10 steals.
