Winter Sports Series PART 2: Riverside Q&A

When the temperature drops and snow, sometimes, covers the ground, that means it’s time for the sports to come inside. In this two-part, Winter Sports series, we will be talking to athletes from both Riverside and Lincoln high school, along with releasing the schedules for all winter sports.

For the second and final part of our Winter Sports Series, EllwoodCity.org talked to Lauren Bettencourt and Brian Macmurdo about their wintertime sports.

What grade are you in?
12th Grade

How long have you been involved in basketball?
I have been involved since 3rd grade.

Why did you choose basketball?
I wish I could remember back to 3rd grade when I chose to play basketball, but I don’t remember the exact reason. I am very glad that when I was 9 years old, I chose it though because I love this game.

Your future/college plans?
I plan to attend college in the Fall but am unsure of exactly where I will go.

How have you and your team prepared for this upcoming season?
Our team prepares for the season by participating in Summer and Fall leagues and practicing consistently and more frequently towards our regular season. We come to practice every day, work hard, and make that time count so that we can not only individually improve but improve as a team as well.

Brian Macmurdo

Boys Varsity Basketball

What grade are you in?
12th

How long have you been involved in basketball?
I’ve been playing basketball since 7th grade, 6 years.

Why did you choose basketball?
I started playing because I always enjoyed watching it but never got a chance to play until that year because I didn’t have time with other sports.

Your future/college plans?
I plan on gettings a 4-year business degree.

How have you and your team prepared for this upcoming season?
We work as hard as we can every practice building up to the season so we can be as prepared as possible once games begin.
