Wolverines Grab Lead in Seventh Inning for Victory Over Laurel

Ellwood City Wolverines took the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Laurel on Friday. The game was tied at three with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the seventh when Mitch Fraser singled off of Will Shaffer, driving in the go-ahead run to finally overtake a Laurel team that took an early lead in the first inning. Noah Rinker earned the win for Ellwood City Wolverines. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Ellwood City Track Teams Fall To Beaver

The Ellwood City boys and girls track teams were defeated by Beaver Area Friday afternoon.  For the girls, a strong showing in the 100m was put together by the trio of Avory Elchison, Mia DeCaria, and Alena Battaglia who swept the event for the Wolverines.  DeCaria also took first place in the high jump and long jump to spur the Wolverines. Wolverines Boys Tennis Falls To Beaver Area

Ellwood City boys tennis team fell to Beaver Area Thursday in high school tennis action at the Ewing Park Tennis Court. For the Wolverines, Trey Houk was able to collect a singles victory in straight sets over Bobcat Ross Huchko while the doubles team of Keegan Reisinger and Alex Vardzel was able to collect a first set victory in doubles action before falling in three sets. In a highly anticipated showdown, Turncoats and BDI squared off Sunday night at the Family Center with Turncoats unbeaten record on the line.  It was more of the same from Turncoats with silky smooth shooting, ball movement and pancakes being served afterwards.  Helping lead the Turncoats to victory, CJ “Doesn’t Need Dave Chappelle for a Block Party’” Lewis had himself a game. Tyler Alberts, a senior at Lincoln High School placed in the PIAA. Alberts has had an exciting year for wrestling, including signing his letter of intent to wrestle for the next four years proceeding a scholarship offered at Wheeling Jesuit University. Defending his team’s unbeaten record, Team Captain Pat “Trying Out for the Detroit Lions” O’Brien and his Turncoats were in action Sunday night at the Family Center. Seven days after officially transitioning from the hunter to the hunted in the Ellwood City Basketball League, O’Brien once again had his troops poised for battle. RHS Swimmers Place Well at WPIALs, Several Advance to PIAA State Meet

   Riverside High School was well represented at the 2017 Class AA WPIAL Swimming and Diving Championships held March 2 and 3 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Trees Hall.  Nine swimmers qualified in one of three relays and several individual events.   The girls’ 200 yard freestyle relay included senior Erica King, junior Bre Finch, and freshmen Leah Frederick and McKenna Hoyman.  RHS placed 12th in a field of 21 relays, also registering a best time of 1:46.12 almost two seconds faster than their seed time.  The girls’ 400 freestyle relay was swum by King, Finch, Hoyman and freshman Abbie…

It was a battle of the unbeaten in the Ellwood City Adult Basketball League Sunday evening as Big Fun and Turncoats headlined the main event at the Family Center. Big Fun; the defending League Champions, rolled into the night’s action at 3-0 rocking the NWO Wolfpac black and red colors. Portersville Christian School Championship Games Recap

Portersville Christian School Championship Games took place this past Saturday, Feb. 25th with the junior high boys losing to Central Prep 32-16, junior high girls winning against Central 13-11, Varsity girls losing to Aquinas 44-27 and Varsity boys winning 55-45 against Cheswick. This is the first time in history that all four of Portersville Christian School’s basketball teams have gone on to the Championships in the same year.
