Wolverines Emerge Victorious Against New Brighton

After a back and forth first half and much of a stalemate in the third quarter, the Ellwood City boys basketball team used a decisive fourth quarter to emerge victorious against New Brighton 55-46 on Tuesday. Ryan Gibbons scored a game-high, and season-high, 16 points (7-12 shooting, two 3-pointers) to lead the Wolverines. Three Wolverine Wrestles Place At Mercer Invitational

Three local wrestlers placed at the 6th Annual Mercer Invitational VFW Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. Austin Walley took 1st place in his weight class while fellow wrestlers Donavin Chambers and Jake Alberts each placed second in their respective classes. ECABF Youth Baseball Registraton

It’s that time of year again – the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Registration (ECABF) is looking for players for the upcoming season.  Registration is currently ongoing and will be open until March 8, 2019 for the spring baseball season. The 2019 ECABF Spring Baseball campaign will be the 69th season of youth baseball in Ellwood City. ECABF offers competitive baseball to boys and girls from as young as 4 years old to as old as 18 years old. Wrestling Team Competes In South Side Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City wrestling team was one of 14 teams that competed in the South Side Beaver Duals Tournament this past Saturday. The team had some individual success but were hampered by no contest forfeits as a team leaving the team winless in the tournament. The Wolverines fell to Cambridge Springs (58-9), Blackhawk (36-24), Lakeview (23-21), Penn Cambria (60-21), and West Greene (34-22). PHOTOS: Panthers Stifle Wolverines, Earn Boys Rivalry Victory

The Riverside Panthers stifled the Ellwood City Wolverines offense on its way to a 57-33 rivalry victory at home Tuesday night. Ben Hughes, Kevin Kolesar, and Nathan Sciarro led the Panthers offense, while the Riverside defense held Ellwood City to a single field goal in the second quarter, 14 points in the first half, and an overall 23% shooting performance. Wolverine Senior Signs With Seton Hill

Congratulations are in order for Ellwood City senior Natalia Greco. Greco is the second Ellwood City Softball senior to commit to further not only her education, but her softball career at a higher level. On Tuesday, Greco signed to attend Seton Hill following her sister, Skyla Greco, who signed in 2018. Much like Ariana Garroway, there is a long and hard work filled varsity softball career following her all the way to Seton Hill college. The Lady Wolverines claimed a 42-31 rivalry victory over Riverside on their home court Monday night. Balanced scoring a third quarter spurt helped the Wolverines pull away in the tightly contested game. Ellwood City held Riverside to a single field goal in a 3rd quarter that stretched what was a five-point halftime lead out to an 11-point cushion. Wolverines Notch A Comeback Victory Over Lancers

Ellwood City boys basketball team gained a come-from-behind victory against Neshannock 58-55 on Friday with the help of Steve Antuono, who scored game-high 27 points. After trailing 36-32 after three quarters, and by as many as six points in several occasions in the fourth quarter, the Wolverines clawed back to victory, scoring the last seven points of the contest. Lady Wolverines Defend Home Court, Beat Beaver Falls

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines defended home court Monday night in a backyard battle with neighboring Beaver Falls, defeating the Tigers 53-48.  Ellwood City used points from distance in pivotal third quarter and later at the free throw line to secure the section win. Three out of six player were in double figures including senior Isabella Roth with a team-high 15 points (four 3-pointers; 3-8 from the line). Wolverines Notch A Win Against Mohawk Area

Steve Antuono scored a game-high 21 points to lead Ellwood City to a 51-45 victory over Mohawk Area on Saturday. The Wolverines (4-6 overall) ran away with an early lead after a 15-point second quarter, running up the lead to 27-18 by halftime. Antuono collected three 3-pointers on his way to high game-high point total (6-15 overall, 3-6 3-pointers). He also shot well from the line, making 86% (6-for-7) of free throws attempted.
