Ellwood City Local Boxer Fights For A Win

Ellwood City local boxer, Rosalindo Morales, took the win at a much-anticipated boxing match back in early February of this year. Morales now has been boxing for 13 years, and just had one of the biggest boxing match-ups yet. He was 2-0 going against the 2-1 Cleveland native Jeremy Abram at Mountaineer Casino in a scheduled four-round bout. This match was two months in the process, the idea came up in late December. Two Ellwood Students Selected For The Roundball Classic All-Stars

Ellwood City Wolverines basketball stars Broc Boariu and Isabella Roth have been selected to participate in the annual Roundball Classic All-Star Basketball Games set for April 12th and April 13th at Geneva College “I have worked so hard these past years, and I’m so glad that I have been selected to play with some of the best players in the WPIAL,” said Isabella Roth. Isabella Roth leads the Lady Wolverines to a final 13-10 (6-8) season as well as a first-round game in the 3A WPIAL playoffs. Visitor Commentary Sparks Debate Over Field Usage

Ewing Park baseball field usage came into question last night during Ellwood City Area School District’s Board meeting. During visitor comments, Bill Garroway, coach of the Jr. High girls softball team and assistant coach of the girl’s varsity softball team requested the board consider the usage of Freidhoff Field in Ewing Park for the girl’s games. “First class softball teams deserve the use of a first-class field,” Garroway said. Walley Takes 4th Place At PIAA Wrestling Tournament

Ellwood City junior wrestler Austin Walley finished 4th overall in the 182-pound weight class in the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Tournament held at the GIANT Center in Hershey, PA. Walley used a 10-2 decision over Kaleb Kamerer of Slippery Rock and a 9-6 decision over Hunter O’Connor of Jersey Shore Area to advance early in the tournament.  The victories set up a rematch with Bryson Miller of Freedom Area in the semifinal. Riverside’s Swim Team Making A Splash At WPIAL Championship

The Riverside swim team made a splash in the WPIAL championships this past weekend. On the first day, February 28, the Panthers were led by the 200-yard medley relay team of Alexander Roth, Josiah Shaffer, Graham Kralic and Donnie Paracca, which placed second with a time of 1:38.53, less than two-tenths of a second behind Indiana. The same quartet placed third in the 200 freestyle relay. “Nothing will keep them from doing their best! Riverside Swimming to WPIAL Championships

“We are a little fish in a big pond and we will leave our mark,” expressed Riverside Swim Team head coach Gwen Nulph when asked about the upcoming WPIAL Swimming Championships. They surely have owned up to this statement during the season and now turn their attention to the WPIAL Class AA championships. Two Ellwood City Wrestlers Advance to PIAA State Championships

Two Ellwood City wrestlers have advanced to Hershey PIAA State AA Wrestling Championships.  Austin Walley collected a PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional runner up finish in the 182-pound weight class while fellow Wolverine Donavin Chambers placed 4th in his 132-pound weight class. Ellwood City Bocce Rolling Into Early Season Success

The Ellwood City Bocce team is ‘rolling’ along with early season success. The team is currently 2-0, with victories against Grove City, the defending state champions, and Slippery Rock. Their latest victory, and win, had been against Slippery Rock on Thursday, February 14. The team went into a sudden death frame after both teams had been tied 3-3 when time ran out. Wolverines Fall To Carlynton In WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs

The Ellwood City girls basketball team made the most of their upset bid on Wednesday, but after battling all game against the higher seeded Cougars of Carlynton, the Wolverines finally fell 44-39 in their opening round match-up at North Hills. The teams were tied 18-18 at the half before Carlynton opened the second half with an 11-2 run.
