PHOTOS: Harper Tosses 3-Hitter, Panthers Shutout Wolverines

Panthers starter Ronnie Harper pitched a gem Thursday, twirling five shutout innings as Riverside easily blanked the visiting Wolverines 10-0. Harper allowed just three hits. He struck out six batters and did not issue a walk. The Panthers, now 7-1 overall, secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the second inning. Hunter Garvin, Drake Fox, Madden Boehm, and Bo Fornataro, who all drove in runs in the second frame. Boehm slugged a second inning homerun en route to his four-RBI performance. Riverside racked up 11 hits on the afternoon with Darren McDade, Evan Burry, and Boehm collecting multiple hits….

SPORTS: Wolverines Softball Stays Unbeaten, Baseball Bests Freedom; EC Junior High Defeats Riverside

In a collective sweep for Ellwood City teams, three Wolverine teams collected victories on Wednesday. Varsity Softball improved its undefeated record, varsity baseball defeated Freedom Area, and junior high softball got the best of rival Riverside. Wolverines Softball Defeats Beaver Falls, Record Now 5-0 The offense remained potent, this time scoring seven runs in the first inning as the Lady Wolverines run ruled Beaver Falls by a score of 12-2. SOFTBALL RECAPS: EC Varsity Improves to 4-0; Junior High Off To Fast Start

Ellwood City softball programs are off to great starts this spring, with the varsity squad improving to 4-0 while the junior high team collected a resounding victory to continue its great play. Wolverines Varsity Defeats South Park, Record Now 4-0 Once again, the bats came out hot as the Lady Wolverines beat South Park last night 15-5 at Stiefel Park. EC Baseball Rallies Past Freedom; RHS Softball Also Downs The Bulldogs

In a rather successful sweep on Monday, the Ellwood City baseball team rallied to defeat Freedom 4-3 while across the Connoquenessing River, the hosting Riverside Panthers softball team also defeated the Bulldogs 8-3 on Monday. ECASD Board of Directors Approves Helling Stadium Project

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors awarded the Helling Stadium project to Fred L. Burns, Inc., Shippenville, Pa, at an overall cost of $2,562,405. The major portion of that project will be the installation of Astro Turf at a cost of $2,420,000, which includes removal of dirt, addition of drainage, and labor. In addition to the Astro Turf, the track will be resurfaced with a long-lasting synthetic material at a cost of $64,150 and $7,380 for the school colors to be added. WOLVERINES WIN NAILBITER OVER UNION There’s nothing better than a close game with controversy early in the season. The Lady Wolverines traveled to Union yesterday and came home with a 8-7 victory. Riverside hosted a track meet Tuesday afternoon against Shenango and Ellwood City. The visiting Wildcats collected victories over Riverside (79.5-70.5) and Ellwood City (133-17) while Riverside was able to defeat the Wolverines (124-26). The teams will next look forward to the Beaver County Track Championships scheduled for April 9, 2022. Ellwood City and Riverside baseball teams both collected victories on Monday while the Ellwood City softball team cruised to another victory. Magnifico, Wolverines Beat New Brighton 3-1 Nick Magnifico allowed just four hits to New Brighton en route to a complete game victory as the hosting Wolverines rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to secure a come-from-behind victory. Magnifico also sparked the offense in the sixth inning with a two-run single.
