Ellwood City Varsity Softball Easily Dispatches Beaver Falls; Junior High Knocks Off Riverside

The Wolverines varsity softball team scored 15 runs for the second consecutive game – this time it took just three innings for the mercy rule to end things as they beat Beaver Falls 15-0 Wednesday evening. Ellwood City outfielder Lexi Beck capped a five run first inning attack with a two run double to left field scoring Keira Rozanski and Ellie Kalantzis. Panthers Stay Unbeaten With Victory Over Shenango; Ellwood City Falls To Neshannock

Riverside took a late lead to defeat Shenango 6-3 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten on the regular season. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when Panther slugger Bo Fornataro singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs as part of the four run inning that pushed the host Panthers ahead 6-2. After Shenango opened up the scoring with a run in the top half of the third inning, Riverside responded with the long ball. Wolverines Blast Blackhawk, Rozanski Earns 200th Career Victory

Ellwood City made quick work of Blackhawk Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park, earning head coach Gary Rozanski his 200th career coaching victory. The non-section contest was halted after five innings as the Lady Wolverines mercy ruled the Cougars 15-1. The Wolverines started quickly Tuesday as Amber Mcquistion knocked in Julie Nardone with a single and Sara Schwarz knocked in two more with a line drive to right field to make it 3-0. Lady Wolverines Nip Mohawk 4-3, Improves to 4-1 Overall

Wednesday evening’s game between Ellwood City and Mohawk at Stiefel Park had a playoff feel even though it was just the second section game for both squads. Both pre-season favorites to compete for the section crown entered the game with 0-1 section records and the winner would jump right back into the section race while the loser would be in a deeper hole. The game was a back and forth nail biter dominated by pitching and defense that featured some late game heroics by the Lady Wolverines to came away with a 4-3 victory. Ellwood City Tennis Defeats Rival Riverside

Ellwood City leaned on Ryan Odom who earned a singles match victory to propel Ellwood City to a 3-2 victory over rival Riverside on Tuesday. Odom defeated Jaden Falk 6-5 and 7-5. For Riverside, Samuel Hughes collected a singles victory, defeating Grady Smith of Ellwood City 6-0 and 6-3. The Panthers also collected a doubles victory as Reece Pilarski & Jeff Weisz rallied to defeat Ellwood City’s Ayden Frisk & Hunter Rock (5-7, 6-4, 6-2) after dropping their first set. Riverside Routs Beaver Falls, Remains Unbeaten

Five Panthers collected doubles in a 15-0 rout of Beaver Falls on Monday afternoon. Sam Barber, Bo Fornataro, Mitch Garvin, and Darren McDade swatted two-baggers while Sean Hayes collected two doubles in the offensive attack. Garvin finished with three RBIs to lead the Panthers who are now 4-0 on the young season. Ron Harper pitched a perfect three innings on the mound, striking out two while not allowing a hit or walk over the mercy-rule shortened performance. Ellwood City Softball Drops Section Opener The Lady Wolverines came out on the losing end of a 3-2 score Monday at Hopewell High School and lost their section opener. In a pitchers dual that saw 21 strikeouts between pitchers, the Viking had more timely hitting as all three of their runs came with two outs. Wolverines Softball Stays Unbeaten, Defeats Shenango 4-1 The Lady Wolverines finished their pre section tune up with a record of 3-0 after a victory over Shenango Thursday evening at Steifel Park.
