2023 Delmar Golf Course Club Championship Results

The 63rd Annual Delmar Golf Course Club Championship was held August 5th and August 6th, 2023. This year the event featured 63 members and Sam Barry Jr. collected his 11th club championship. Barry, Jr. finished with a two day total of 4 under par, 140 to win by 3 strokes over Broc Boariu and Lino Simeoni. Dave Cappello and Geoffery Bokor captured the A-Flight title while Carson Cappello captured the B-Flight championship. Pickleball Court a “Hit” in Ewing Park

If you have noticed something new this year in Ewing Park … it’s probably the pickleball court. Councilwoman Judith Dici saw the sport growing in popularity and when she realized that it was a sport that many ages and skill levels could enjoy, she decided to bring the idea to Ellwood City Borough Council. After stringing together two victories to begin their tournament run, Ellwood City ran into some trouble over the weekend in the 72nd Annual Ellwood City Little League Tournament, first falling to defending tournament champion Central Valley 12-3 on Saturday and then to Neshannock on Sunday to eliminate the team from the tournament. Central Valley plays Neshannock Monday evening in the tournament championship game. Cam Boydell smacked two home runs to power Ellwood City past Shenango 5-2 in the 72nd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Wednesday night. Boydell rapped a solo home run in the third inning and belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Registration Now Available For Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation Fall Ball

Registration is now available for the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation’s (ECABF) 2023 Fall Ball season. The season will be six to eight weeks at four area locations with four levels of league play. The season is schedule to take place August 26th/27th until October 20th/21st. Field locations include Friedhoff Field, Ellwood City; Rosannah Field, Ellwood City; Shenango Athletic Complex, New Castle; and Union Fields, also in New Castle. Ellwood City downed Laurel 13-4 Tuesday night in the 72nd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field. Ellwood City broke open a close contest with a seven-run outburst in the fourth inning to pull away from Laurel. Anderson Weisz led Ellwood City with a home run, double, and single and Joey Nardone added a double and two singles. Elwood City opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. Lucarelli Named Post-Gazette Class-3A Player Of The Year, Oliastro Wins Coach Of The Year

Sophomore Christian Lucarelli was named by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as the Class-3A Player Of The Year. The newspaper announced a winner for each WPIAL Classification. The right-hander finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record and 1.07 ERA. Lucarelli allowed only 21 hits over 65 2/3 innings and struck out 129 batters. He has made a verbal commitment to Duke University. STATE CHAMPS! Unbeaten Riverside Captures PIAA Class-3A Championship

A pair of brothers and a sophomore sensation helped the Riverside Panthers lay claim to a record setting year on Thursday, defeating Camp Hill 4-0 to earn its PIAA Class-3A Championship. Brothers Mitch and Hunter Garvin accounted for all four RBIs in the victory while sophomore pitcher Christian Lucarelli fired 6.2 innings of two hit baseball for the unbeaten Panthers. Four area athletes will be represented at the annual Penn Ohio All-Star Game next Thursday. Riverside announced that three members of their 2022 football team have been selected to play in a notable game while Ellwood City will send one athlete from their 2022 team.
