Borough of Ellwood City Launching Food Drive

The Borough of Ellwood City is proud to announce the launch of a Borough wide Food Drive to support the Holy Redeemer food bank for the holidays. Boxes for businesses interested in participating may be obtained by emailing rschnell@ellwoodcityborough.com. Boxes for donations will also be located near the Utility Billing Window at the Borough of Ellwood City. Ewing Park Residents Implore Ellwood City Borough Council to Consider Impact of Planned Softball Field

Residents of Beatty Street and Wood Avenue continued to oppose a planned softball field in their Ewing Park neighborhood during Monday night’s regular meeting of the Ellwood City Borough Council. Although there were no motions on the agenda regarding the field, a dedicated group of residents attended to express their concerns. Karen Mancini who lives on Beatty Street asked Council to consider putting up signs on the streets surrounding the field, should the stadium be built, that would allow only residents and guests of residents to park there. Natural Gas Odor Forces Brief Evacuation At Lincoln High School

An odor of natural gas detected in a Lincoln High School storage room Thursday morning, forcing a brief evacuation of the high school. This according to the Ellwood City Area School District and superintendent Wes Shipley. “We evacuated the building to Hartman while Columbia Gas and the local fire department investigated,” said Shipley in an emailed statement Friday. Both Columbia Gas and the fire department noted that the levels of gas in the air were minute and were not at an explosive level. Several area churches will be holding Trunk or Treat events as the Halloween holiday approaches. On Sunday, October 22, 2023, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church will hold its fifth annual Trunk or Treat from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in its church parking lot. Residents Continue Opposition Against Planned Softball Stadium at Former Ewing Park School Location

Residents of Beatty and Wood Streets, where a softball stadium is planned for the Ellwood City Area School District girls softball team, continued to fill the seats of the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting room, and they circulated a petition in the hallway of Lincoln High School in an effort stop the plan before Thursday’s voting meeting. Sewer Upgrade Project on Wampum Avenue Underway

The Borough of Ellwood City has announced the start of the Wampum Avenue Pump Station Project in its effort to improve the infrastructure in the area. A letter was mailed to residents in the affected areas. Construction will take place on Wampum Avenue between Madison Street Ext and Fifth Street Bridge. This project is a sewer upgrade for multiple existing sewer transport lines in the wooded area East of Wampum Ave. A pump station will also be built to collect from these lines to be transported to the Ellwood City Borough Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment.
