BC3 at Lawrence Crossing Plans Oct. 25 Open House

Visitors to an Oct. 25 open house can learn about BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing’s innovative scheduling options that reflect students’ needs, about associate degree programs that instill the professional and technical skills necessary to start a career, and how 75 percent of BC3 students graduate debt-free. The open house will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing, 2849 W. State St., New Castle. Animal Hospital Presents Check to Police Department

Ellwood City’s Mayor Anthony J. Court was thrilled to accept a check from Tammy of the Ellwood City Animal Hospital on behalf of the Ellwood City Police K9 Team, Ranger and Sgt. McBride. Just recently Dr. Cindy Mauro of the Ellwood Animal Hospital, Mayor Court and Sgt. McBride participated in a fundraiser so that the K9 Unit could purchase a GPS for K9 Ranger. Mayor Court and the Ellwood City Police Department/K9 Unit send a “Special Thank You” to Dr. Mauro, The Ellwood City Animal Hospital and to all those who participated in the excellent fundraiser.

Ellwood City Police, Firemen Receive Commendation for Life Saving Event

Several Ellwood City volunteer firemen and two Ellwood City officers attended yesterday’s council meeting while Council President Connie MacDonald read their commendation. On October 4th, a man working at Blank Concrete and Supply Co. went into full cardiac arrest, police officers Matthew Kennedy and Robert Magnifico were first to arrive on scene and immediately started CPR. Together both the officers and firefighters performed life-saving techniques on the man including using an AED to stabilize him while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Clubs, Others at BC3 Give $3,600 to Hurricane Victims

Students representing Butler County Community College clubs have donated to the American Red Cross $3,600, which a local board member says represents “a significant amount of money” to be used to help victims of recent hurricanes. BC3 nursing club members Mikayla Spreng, of Saxonburg, and Josh Cranmer, of Butler; and BC3 physical therapy assistant club members Jessica Palascak, of Cranberry Township, and Rachel Fisher, of Wolcott, N.Y., gave checks totaling $3,600 to Blessel on Oct. 9. “I am really impressed that the local community college folks have been able to come together to give us this,” said Blessel, a Butler…

Area Residents Warned to Stay Alert to Scammers

According to other news sources, a home in Shenango Township was robbed during what appeared to be a burglary scam. Reports state that last Thursday a man, described as a skinny white male with acne, driving a black SUV, went to the victim’s home in the area of Old Butler Road claiming to be an electric company worker. The victim asked the man for credentials that the man failed to provide, but he was still able to convince the victim to allow him access into the backyard to conduct a survey. To provide the public with accurate information regarding the status and progress of the negotiations between the School District and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 32BJ (hereinafter referred to as “Union”), the Board is posting this Negotiations Update which summarizes the Board’s efforts to reach a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Union.
