The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City borough council meeting held on Monday, April 16: Visitors Council approved a suggestion from Kathy Brenner to install two Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible swings, one in Ewing Park and one in Heritage Park on Pittsburgh Circle. HARRISBURG – Taking the first major step toward protecting local residents from skyrocketing electric bills, the state House of Representatives today approved legislation, authored by Rep. House Bill 2030 Passes, Ellwood Council Hires Lobbyist to Oppose

Yesterday, House Bill 2030, which modifies the Ellwood City borough electric department, passed in a 106-89 vote. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-10, New Beaver, will now pass to the state senate. The bill will prevent the borough from transferring funds from the electric department to the General Fund and includes additional provisions for consumer protection. The bill’s language limits its impact to boroughs providing electric to more than one county. Rod & Gun Club Announces Final Turkey Shoot Winners

The Ellwood/Wampum Rod and Gun Club had it;’s final turkey shoot for the season on April 10. The winners were Kurtis Kelly, Jerry Sadler, Chuck Bingle, Frank Miller and Howard Watson. Howard Allison and Carmen Bucci were double winners. Chuck Bingle won the door prize. The winner of the spring season’s door prize was Taran Spielvogel. Ellwood City Football Alumni Dinner Scheduled

The Ellwood City Football Boosters club will be organizing and holding an alumni dinner on Saturday May 12, 2018 at Wayne Township Firehall. Social hour begins at 5:00pm with dinner following at 6:00pm, served by Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ.  The cost for the event is $30.00 and RSVPs must be received by May 4th. Ellwood City School Board April Meeting Brief

Festival Parking Lot Issue Resolved The board passed a motion resolving an ongoing parking issue with the festival committee. District organizations, such as the football boosters, have historically used festival car parking as a fundraising method. However, a new district policy concerning licensing/subcontracting and confusion over which organizations the festival would award the parking lots to resulted in a delay in the board granting the lots to the festival committee. Three Ellwood Students To Perform in “Fiddler on the Roof”

PORTERSVILLE, PA — Several area students will carry on the musical tradition of “Fiddler on the Roof” at 7 p.m. April 26-28 at Portersville Christian School. Performers from Ellwood City are Danny Schlachter, Kaylin Kingston and Faith Patterson. New Castle area participants include Aubrey Hollerman, Josh Rupert, Aidan Ramsey, Ben Hurta and Christian Cater.
