Ethel Snare Celebrates 100th Birthday

Ellwood City native Ethel Snare joined the centennial celebrations this week, celebrating her 100th birthday on Wednesday.  Snare joins Guy Prestia whom celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday. Snare was born on April 27,1922 to George and Gladys Wallis in the Ewing Park area of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. She grew up with her three siblings, Virginia, Robert, and Roberta during the Depression and the lessons of being thrifty and self-sufficient have stayed with her to this day. Guy Prestia Celebrates 100th Birthday

Guy Prestia was listed as the ‘most ambitious boy’ of the outstanding seniors in Lincoln High School’s 1940 Ellwoodian. Now, 82 years later, ambitious still describes the World War II veteran as he celebrates his 100th birthday, which is Tuesday, April 26. The Ellwood City native, now a North Sewickley Township resident, still drives around Ellwood City, remains active at Park Gate Baptist Church, is a frequent speaker at veterans gatherings and speaks to students in area schools. Wayne Township Tax Office Will Open May 2

The new Wayne Township Tax Office is set to open on Monday, May 2, 2022. The office will be located at the Wayne Township Firehall, 5153 Ellwood Road, Ellwood City, PA 16117 Wayne Township property taxes can be paid “in-person” on the 1st and 3rd Monday and Thursday of each month, at the above noted Firehall address, from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. Tax payments may be mailed to: Wayne Township Tax Collector, PO Box 24, Ellwood City, PA 16117 For ‘mail payments requesting receipts’ with payment, please include a postage-paid/self-addressed envelope. In a release made available the by district, the Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors as schedule a finance committee meeting in May. The board of directors has schedule the meeting to take pace on Thursday, May 2022 at 6:00 p.m. followed by the already scheduled Committee of the Whole Meeting at 7:00 p.m. These meetings will be held in the Board Room located in the Lincoln Junior Senior High School, 501 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117

Beaver, Lawrence County Projects Receive a Combined Total of $4.3 Million

HARRISBURG – A total of five Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants, with a combined total of $4.3 million, have been awarded to Beaver and Lawrence County projects, according to Sen. Elder Vogel (R-47). The majority of that grant funding total – $2.3 million – went to Shenango Area School District toward the cost of the already-constructed Shenango Recreation Complex in Shenango Township, Lawrence County. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

HIT & RUN: PA State Police responded to a report of a hit/run crash on April 8th at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wurtemburg Road, Wayne Township. According to the police report, the complainant claimed that he observed fresh damage to the property owner’s yard and a damaged/dirt covered vehicle, a 2000 Jaguar S-Type, in a nearby church parking lot. Upon arrival to the scene, contact was made with the owner of the vehicle who was currently attempting to have the vehicle towed. Franklin Township has announced an upcoming drive-thru recycling collection event scheduled to take place Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event is available for the ENTIRE PUBLIC, not just Franklin Township residents. Rotary Clubs and Honduras Hope Mission to Host “Walk 4 Water” this April

MARS — Rich-Mar Rotary, Keystone Rotary and the Honduras Hope Mission, a local 501(c)(3) organization, are hosting the Second Annual “Walk 4 Water” event. “Walk 4 Water” is a fundraising program that spreads awareness of the walks women in developing countries must endure to provide their families with water. “Walk 4 Water” will take place at Adams Township Park on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Wolves Club Hosts Dan Hoover During Monthly Meeting

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den 11 met on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, and hosted Dan Hoover, Plant Manager of the Nalco Waters Plant in Ellwood City. Dan is a 30 year employee and covered the special chemical products produced at the plant and how Nalco has been involved in the community the entire time he has been with them. Nalco has been a sponsor for the Gobbler’s Gallop at Riverside as well as the Ellwood City Festival 10k race. The clubs’ motto is Pro Bono Publico: for the good of the public.
