VIDEO: Connoquenessing River Flooding

A major weather event brought persistent rain to the area throughout the day on Thursday leading to major flooding concerns and local road closures. Below is aerial video footage of the flood damages of the Connoquenessing River near the Riverside School District and the Connoqunessing Country Club.  The river crested and put parts of Mercer Road and Country Club Drive underwater. PITTSBURGH – PennDOT is advising motorists that portions of the following state roadways are closed or restricted due to flooding as a result of the heavy rain event this week. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

TERRORISTIC THREATS: On February 12 at approximately 11:35 a.m. PSP New Castle was dispatched to a domestic in progress on State Line Road, Enon Valley, Lawrence County. According to the report, it was found that a Kenneth Borer, 33, of Enon Valley, had threatened a 32-year-old female victim with a gun and also punched her in the face multiple times. After a short standoff Borer came out of the house and was taken into custody. Borer was arraigned for charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, harrassment, and bond was set at $10,000. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society convened for their regular monthly membership meeting Monday February 14th. Present Everett Bleakney welcomed the 30 present and Guy Prestia, a World War II veteran led with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. The meeting commenced with Charles Brown presenting the financial report. Robert Morabito, chairman of the Programs and Publicity reported on the future guest speakers. In a notice made available by the Ellwood City Area School District this week, the School Board of Directors has announced two upcoming meetings. October Studios Hosting An Upcoming ‘Battle Of The Bands’

October Studios, a full-service recording studio located in Ellwood City, is hosting an upcoming ‘Battle of the Bands’ event with a chance for participating bands to win some serious cash. The live music event will be held at local entertainment/sports lounge, The Tee Box, on Saturday, February 26th beginning at 8:00 p.m. The event is for ages 21 and over. ECASD Board of Directors Enacts Policy for Booster Organizations

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to enact policy 915 Parent/Guardian Booster/Support Organizations Thursday evening. Policy 915 is as follows: The Board recognizes the need for and the role of parent/guardian or community-based booster organizations to support the District’s academic, athletic and extracurricular activities. The Board also desires that all parent/guardian and booster organizations work together cooperatively for the best interests of students. Authority It is the responsibility of the Superintendent and the Board to recognize school-related organizations and to approve their activities. ECASD Board of Directors Hires Track Coaches

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Alan Marsh and Nathan Brown to serve as co-head varsity track coaches during its February 10 meeting. Historically, the track team had one head coach and four assistant coaches. Because of the hiring of co-head coaches, the team will have only three assistants this year, according to ECASD Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley.
